‘This is what people at Aston Villa are telling me about Harvey Elliott, it’s unfortunate’

Harvey Elliott has been left in a terrible position at Aston Villa.

The Liverpool loanee has struggled to feature for the Villans, with Unai Emery and Villa not wanting to trigger Elliott’s £35million buy obligation.

If he plays 10 games for the Midlands club, he will sign permanently.

There was talk that Elliott could return to Liverpool, but that would involve Villa paying a fee to terminate the loan agreement.

Additionally, Villa and Liverpool were in discussions over Elliott’s loan deal recently to see if a solution that benefits all parties could be thrashed out.

However, so far, nothing has changed for the player’s situation, and it is hard not to feel sympathy after hearing what people inside the club are saying, according to Stuart Pearce.

What has Stuart Pearce heard about Harvey Elliott at Aston Villa?

Pearce is well connected in English football, and the former England manager has been speaking to people at Villa Park.

The topic of Elliott has been a big one this season, and the former Premier League footballer has been asking about the midfielder’s situation.

Pearce said on talkSPORT: “I really feel for Harvey Elliot, because you speak to people at Villa and they’ve only got positive things to say about him in terms of his attitude and application in training every day.

“It’s just really unfortunate that for whatever reason Emery doesn’t seem to fancy him, doesn’t want Villa to have to pay the £35m that’s written into the agreement if he plays 10 or more appearances for Villa this season. So he’s stuck in limbo.”

At the moment, Elliott has currently made seven appearances in all competitions for Emery’s side.

It is unlikely he will feature much more this season, as the Spanish manager will not want to trigger that buy clause.

The Englishman has been useful for the club throughout January, as his few appearances have helped them navigate a tricky injury crisis in the midfield.

What’s next for Elliott?

Elliott will likely return to Liverpool at the end of the season, unless there is a dramatic U-turn in how people view him at Villa Park.

Fans may see him feature for at least two more games, just before the cut-off of that magic number of 10 appearances. But he will certainly not play any more than two more games for Aston Villa.

Elliott is also not fancied at Liverpool, so he will more than likely need to seek a new club once again in the summer.

And with him playing a lack of football this season, it could be hard for his parent club to attract as much as the £35m they were expecting from Villa.

Overall, it has been a disappointing saga for Elliott, Aston Villa and Liverpool.
