Aston Villa’s worst fear could come to fruition amid £86.8m update

Aston Villa could lose one of their star players in a matter of months.

With the winter window now closed, Aston Villa will be fully focused on one thing, and one thing only: securing Champions League football for the next campaign.

And in regard to that, the Villans are well placed to achieve it, with a seven-point gap over Liverpool, who sit just one place outside of the Champions League qualification spots.

However, once this season is all said and done, attention will turn back to recruitment, and Villa could be set for a hard time in that regard after the latest news from Old Trafford.

Manchester United already eyeing Morgan Rogers transfer

There are two figures at Aston Villa that, if they were to leave, would completely derail their season plans: Unai Emery and Morgan Rogers.

Emery has again been linked with the Real Madrid job, while a report from Fichajes now states that Manchester United are eying a summer move to bring Rogers to Old Trafford.

Rogers is under contract at Villa Park until 2031, meaning the Villans are under no immediate pressure to sell, but their PSR position could force them to give in if an offer deemed too good to turn down were received.

And in this instance, the report claims that it would require a fee in the region of £86.8million to prize him away in the summer.

Morgan Rogers stats

The 23-year-old, who is still improving each and every week, already has 12 goal contributions in the Premier League this season, having started all 24 of Aston Villa’s encounters.

Aston Villa’s stance on Morgan Rogers should be clear

There will come a point where Rogers moves on from Villa Park, though the hope will be that it is still some time away yet.

But when that happens, the Villans need to ensure that they receive money from his exit to not only replace him, but also bolster another area of their squad.

That is how Villa can keep competing with the likes of Arsenal and Man City, who seem to get a free pass when it comes to PSR each year.

Whether £86m would be enough to achieve that is unknown, but given some of the recent transfers in the top flight, it would not be a surprise to see Villa hold out for a lot more.
