Aston Villa must make Douglas Luiz transfer permanent already after crushing update
Unai Emery was delighted to welcome Douglas Luiz back to Aston Villa in the winter window, but may need to turn his loan move permanent in a couple of months.
The Brazilian has already rejoined the Villans on loan until the end of the season, after departing B6 in the summer of 2024.
Luiz has already admitted he has missed playing for Villa, and the midfielder expressed his delight at his return.
Aston Villa have a reported £22million buy option in Luiz’s loan contract, and Emery may need to ask NSWE to consider a permanent move for him soon.
That’s after the Spaniard learned of the extent of Boubacar Kamara‘s injury.

Boubacar Kamara’s injury deemed a PCL tear
Kamara suffered a knee injury in Villa’s FA Cup win over Tottenham in the early stages of January, and fears over the Frenchman’s setback have been confirmed.
According to The Athletic on Tuesday, Kamara underwent surgery on his left knee, the night Aston Villa beat Fenerbahce 1-0 in the Europa League.
Thankfully, the operation was a success, but the extent of the injury has now been revealed as a tear to the Frenchman’s posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), which, with surgery, can keep a player out for up to nine months.
- PCL tear that requires operation usually requires six to nine months of recovery
- That means Kamara could be out until as late as October in the worst-case scenario
Though Kamara could be back for the start of next campaign, there is no guarantee that the 26-year-old will come back the player he once was.

More importantly, Luiz now has a major chance to cement his importance to the Villans all over again, and give Emery no choice but to go to NSWE and ask them to sign the Juventus loanee permanently in the summer.
How much are Aston Villa paying for Douglas Luiz’s wages?
Villa have obvious Profit and Sustainability Rules they have to follow, but in the summer, things can totally change.
The Villans could bank over £50million through the permanent sales of Evann Guessand and Donyell Malen, which would raise more than enough funds to trigger Luiz’s buy option.

£22m could be a smart investment for a player who still seems to be improving, but Aston Villa will still have to pay his heavy wages.
But it’s also been revealed by The Athletic that Juventus are the ones who are paying the Brazilian’s wages in full.
It’s not known how much his salary is, but it could be worth the investment considering Kamara’s huge setback.
