Unai Emery makes new Aston Villa transfer admission ahead of window closing

Aston Villa have had a busy end to the winter transfer window.

Over the last week, the club have confirmed the signings of Tammy Abraham and Douglas Luiz, with the duo returning for a second spell at Villa Park.

Additionally, Unai Emery was given an answer on a potential move for Ferran Torres, with the Barcelona forward on Villa’s radar.

In terms of outgoings, Evan Guessand has left Villa Park, with Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba also expected to leave on loan, joining West Brom, despite featuring in the Europa League.

Whether or not there were any more incomings before the window shut was up in the air, but the Aston Villa manager has now provided a definitive answer.

Will Aston Villa sign any more players?

Aston Villa have not stood still in improving their squad for the rest of the season.

Guessand’s struggles were not left to rot, and the club have done exceptionally well to get rid of a player that was clearly not working out.

The arrival of Abraham provides Emery with a more suited profile, with the Englishman already knowing the level of the Premier League.

Villa fans may have been hoping for one or two more arrivals before the deadline shuts, but Emery has now clarified the club’s position.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Aston Villa’s 1-0 defeat to Brentford, Emery said: “We don’t have a lot of possibilities to do something to improve now.

“We did everything we planned. It is completely done the transfer window for us.”

It now looks to be a quiet day at Villa Park on deadline day. However, it remains to be seen if that includes outgoings for the West Midlands club.

Do Aston Villa really need any more signings?

New signings are always fun, and a chance to improve the squad should always be taken.

Aston Villa had picked up numerous injuries in midfield, with Youri Tielemans, John McGinn, and Boubacar Kamara all facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.

The club did act quickly by bringing Luiz back to the club, but perhaps one more extra midfielder to cover the absences could have been brought in.

However, it seems, as Emery suggests, the club is not in a position to authorise any more signings, and bringing in temporary solutions, while sometimes necessary, is never ideal.

Overall, the business done has been satisfactory, and hopes are that Emery has enough on his hands to bring Champions League football and a Europa League trophy to Villa Park this season.
