Douglas Luiz shines on return, Lamare Bogarde stinker – Aston Villa player ratings vs Brentford

Aston Villa fell to a 1-0 defeat against Brentford on Sunday.

Plenty of excitement surrounded this clash as Villa welcomed Tammy Abraham and Douglas Luiz to face Brentford from the start.

The Villans thought Abraham had scored against Brentford, but his goal was controversially ruled out after the ball went out of play to start the move.

Unai Emery’s side never truly threatened after that, despite all their possession, and went on to fall to yet another frustrating home defeat.

The Premier League title race seems to have taken it out of the B6 outfit, with Villa News now rating each player’s performance out of 10.

Douglas Luiz superb on Aston Villa return

After Youri Tielemans and John McGinn picked up injuries, the claret and blue outfit were in desperate need of midfield reinforcements.

Villa turned to Luiz, and it looks like a shrewd piece of business after an excellent return to the West Midlands.

The Brazilian completed 65 passes throughout his showing in B6, utilising those to create five chances for his teammates, the most on the pitch.

The 27-year-old added to that with three shots and a 100 per cent dribble success rate, proving his intent throughout the clash.

Luiz can consider himself very unlucky to be on the losing side against Brentford, with his showing arguably the best of anyone on the pitch.

Lamare Bogarde rightly hooked after shocker vs Brentford

Lamare Bogarde has regularly been a hugely reliable operator for the Villans, but his performance against Brentford just wasn’t the one.

The 22-year-old was taken off at half-time by Emery and rightly so as the Spaniard went in search of goals in the second half.

Bogarde failed to get involved in any sort of positivity against the Bees, with no shots and just one pass into the final third.

That wasn’t balanced out by a better defensive showing, as his two defensive actions are hardly anything to write home about.

Losing out on two duels was just the last straw for the Villans and saw the Dutchman come off after one of his worst days in claret and blue.
