Amadou Onana opens door to Aston Villa exit as talks revealed

Amadou Onana believes he’s destined to transfer to a “world-class” club in the future.

Onana has been a superb player for Aston Villa since he signed in the summer of 2024 from Everton.

The 24-year-old Belgium international has been a key part of Unai Emery‘s success at Villa Park since his arrival, and is proving himself to be a top central midfielder at Premier League level.

And with Monday’s transfer deadline almost upon us, there will be plenty of Villa supporters desperately hoping there isn’t a late sting in the tail regarding their midfield maestro.

Amadou Onana drops ominous Aston Villa transfer claim

Onana has had his struggles with injury during his time with Aston Villa, which is about the only thing that’s hampered his progress in the West Midlands.

Aside from that, he’s been helping Emery’s midfield engine room run smoothly for some time now, and had been forming a superb partnership with Youri Tielemans before his fellow countryman’s injury.

But, with Villa facing an ongoing battle to remain in both PSR and UEFA’s financial good books, Villans decision-makers may be forced to cash in on some key assets in the near future.

Onana would certainly be viewed as one of those players who could bankroll their coffers, with him still only being 24-years old and has now established himself at the top of both the domestic and international game.

And, in an interview with Het Nieuwsblad, Onana has revealed that he believes his spell at Villa Park will come to an end at some point, and he’ll join a “world-class” club when the time comes.

“Yes, I think one day I’ll make a transfer to a world-class club. That’s really a career goal,” Onana said.

“I’m 24 and I feel like I’ve matured. In the past few months, I’ve played my best football ever. Emery helped me progress even further.

“After my time at Everton, I was already in contact with top clubs. Ultimately, I chose Aston Villa because I thought it was the right move at the time.”

Onana should feel as though he’s already at a ‘world-class’ club

Aston Villa are one of English football’s biggest and oldest clubs, and under Emery, they’re in one of their brightest ever eras.

Villa remain just four points off league leaders Arsenal, and as such, still hold a very real chance of winning the Premier League this season.

They’ve cruised into the Europa League round of 16, and are all but nailed on to be playing Champions League football once again next season.

So, there’s plenty of reasons why Aston Villa could and should be labelled as a ‘world-class’ club, as there wouldn’t be too many players across the globe who wouldn’t fancy playing for them.

Onana may just need to tread carefully here, as more comments such as these ones might just fracture his relationship with the Villa faithful.
