Aston Villa can expect revenue spike as double January signing sparks fans into life

Aston Villa have struggled with finances over the years, but their latest business could provide the boost they needed.

Villa and UEFA have a frustrating relationship, with many supporters feeling their side is being constrained by rules that seem to only benefit the biggest clubs.

That hasn’t stopped Unai Emery from working wonders, helping his side into a title race, with Villa’s latest 2-0 win over Newcastle United leaving them four points off top spot.

Since that great day at St James’, Villa have signed both Douglas Luiz and Tammy Abraham as the duo returned to B6 after spells away.

The Villa Park faithful have been left buzzing by the double deal, with the monetary gain likely to be worth the risk of the winter signings.

Villa signed Evann Guessand as their main summer addition, as upwards of £35million was spent on the Ivory Coast international.

There were high hopes for the OGC Nice man, which he has failed to live upto, but the forward was never going to be a deal to sell shirts.

Supporters love big names and fan favourites when it comes to buying shirts and having players’ names printed on the back, and Guessand fits into neither category.

The Villans have demonstrated those qualities over the years, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and Philippe Coutinho being favourites.

Villa have now brought in Luiz and Abraham, who have already prompted many fans to go to the club shop and buy shirts with their names on.

The Brazilian has taken the number 21, so he may be less popular, but the chance to get Abraham’s name with the same number 18 as his prior loan spell has made the most of nostalgia in B6.

Plenty of fans on social media have already confirmed new shirt purchases, with many more likely to come, something which could seriously benefit revenue this campaign.

How much could Aston Villa make from Tammy Abraham and Douglas Luiz shirts?

There is no limit to how many of these new shirts the Villans could sell based on how loved the two players are in the Midlands.

That number is only boosted further by the current sale and the prospect of further price reductions across the rest of the season.

An adult Aston Villa home shirt (fan version) currently costs £38.25 and with printing and sleeve patches comes in at £69.50.

The same printed and patched top is £78.25 for the away and third kits, with the authentic editions coming in around £101, while long-sleeved versions are £113.

That sort of price for fans is a lot, but they are willing to spend that and have proved that in the past with the 2024 summer kit launch.

As an example, if enough of the most basic home shirts with printing on are bought for every seat at Villa Park, that would represent revenue of around £2.9m.

That sort of boost could make a difference to the club and their financial situation, and the January business would have played a key role in that.
