Newcastle gem and Conor Gallagher may be next as Aston Villa confirm latest transfer
Aston Villa’s winter transfer window is beginning to heat up.
After Alysson’s move to Villa Park was confirmed on New Year’s Day, Unai Emery has made his second signing of the month.
Young striker Brian Madjo was confirmed as an Aston Villa player on Monday, subject to international clearance, with it yet being unclear whether he will have an instant first-team role or if he’ll head into the academy side for now.
That won’t be it in terms of new arrivals this month, with Villa always forecasted to enjoy a busy January transfer window.
However, it won’t just be incomings on the agenda this month, as Donyell Malen has been linked with a move to Roma.
Aston Villa handed transfer target reveal including Conor Gallagher
Aston Villa have been warned against over-spending this winter, but as they look to stay alive in the Premier League title race, many Villans will be hoping Emery is significantly backed in the market over the next few weeks.
And supporters appear set to get their wish, as a host of targets have been confirmed as being on Villa’s transfer radar.
Revealed in a report from the Daily Mail on Monday, Newcastle’s Will Osula, Roma’s Tammy Abraham and Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher are all targets for Aston Villa this month.
Villa fans may feel uninspired by latest transfer update
However, whilst Villa supporters will be pleased to see that their team is being active in the market, those three players in particular may not get the pulses racing.
Gallagher would undoubtedly be the major addition of that trio, and at 25 and with hopes of breaking back into the England picture ahead of the World Cup, the versatile midfielder could be a shrewd signing to bolster Emery’s engine room.
However, he’s struggled in La Liga with Atletico so far this season, and so it would be a risk to bring in a player who is out of form and possibly low on confidence.
- Gallagher has played 30 times for Atletico this season
- He’s scored three goals and provided one assist
- Gallagher has started just four La Liga matches in 2025-26
Meanwhile, Abraham knows all about Aston Villa and vice versa, but now 28 and having scored just three goals in Serie A for AC Milan in 2024-25, he’s currently on loan with Besiktas, and hasn’t played in the Premier League since his 2020-21 campaign with Chelsea.
As for Osula, he’s been unable to break into the starting XI at Newcastle United since his leaving Sheffield United in the summer of 2024, and whilst still only 22, he’s already missed a couple of months through injury this season, and hasn’t shown that he can score goals at Premier League level as of yet.
