Harvey Elliott offered Aston Villa escape route 4,000 miles away as new favourites emerge
Harvey Elliott may finally get a chance to get his career back on track away from Aston Villa at a surprise new club.
The loanee’s struggles at Villa Park have been well documented, with suggestions Villa wanted to send Elliott back to Liverpool this month.
Elliott has already featured for Liverpool this season, and there is no recall clause in his contract, so he is very much stuck in limbo.
FIFA red tape is getting in the way of Elliott’s exit, but he may now be given an entirely different route to go down some 4,000 miles away from Villa Park.
Dean Smith wants Harvey Elliott at Charlotte FC
Villa and Liverpool are set to hold talks over Elliott’s future – if they have not already done so – with the 22-year-old simply wanting to play football.
The situation Elliott finds himself in is not fair on the player, but there does now appear to be an alternative option to the ones previously touted.
According to a report via the Daily Mail on Friday, Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC want to sign Elliott on loan.
While Elliott is unable to play for a third European team this season, he would be free to play for a team in MLS.
Former Villa boss Dean Smith is in charge of the American side and it is believed Charlotte are now the favourites to sign Elliott.
They hope the World Cup being staged on American soil this coming summer will help persuade him to move to Bank of America Stadium.
Should Elliott be told formally by Unai Emery he has no chance of playing, it may well be that the midfielder opts to jump ship while he can.
Why MLS move now makes perfect sense for Elliott
Elliott would not have envisioned playing in MLS anytime soon, particularly having been hailed as a marquee signing for Villa last summer.
However, needs must and this seems like being a good route for a player who still very much has age on his side.

The MLS season begins next month, meaning Elliott will have time to settle in and build up his fitness before four or five months of regular playing time.
Come the summer, he will then be free to find a more permanent solution.
It is clear Elliott has no future at Aston Villa and it is now a case of the player, Villa and Liverpool coming to the best agreement, which is to allow him to play his career Stateside for the time being.
