Aston Villa learn new William Osula stance after UEFA scuppered summer deal

Aston Villa could reignite their interest in Newcastle forward William Osula in the January transfer window.

Villa tried to sign Osula in the summer, but they were hampered by their financial difficulties at the time, as UEFA would not allow the deal.

The Shields Gazette claimed on 2 December claims that European football’s governing body would have seen the transfer as a swap.

That is because the Villans only sold Jacob Ramsey to the Magpies weeks earlier for a figure of approximately £39million.

Why Aston Villa could sign Osula this month

Villa could look to Osula to strengthen their ranks in the winter window, and Newcastle’s stance on a potential deal has emerged.

The report claims that Eddie Howe’s side are willing to allow Osula to leave on loan or on a permanent transfer with a buy-back option.

However, it states that the North East side are currently just focused on getting the Danish star back to full fitness.

Will Osula be what Villa need right now?

There is no doubt that Osula is a promising young striker, but Unai Emery and Co. have lofty ambitions to finish in the Champions League places.

They need an attacker who can challenge Ollie Watkins for a place in the starting line-up and the 22-year-old is not that at the moment.

He has scored two goals in 24 Premier League matches for the Magpies, and he also struggled on loan at Sheffield United in the top flight.

Osula joined the Blades on loan for the 2023-24 campaign, but did not score a single goal in 21 appearances in the division.

The evidence suggests that he is not the prolific goalscorer that the B6 outfit needs to keep them in the chase for Europe’s premier competition, and to push Watkins to improve his levels.

They may be restricted by Profit and Sustainabilty regulations in this window, but surely there is a better loan option than Osula available.

There is also the fact that has missed two months with an ankle injury, and would require a bit of time to return to action.
