Gary Lineker baffled, Micah Richards rages after Morgan Rogers reveal at Aston Villa
Gary Lineker and Micah Richards were left confused after Morgan Rogers wasn’t credited with an assist for Aston Villa against Chelsea on Saturday.
Unai Emery’s team travelled to Stamford Bridge on 27 December, completing a late comeback after Ollie Watkins’ brace.
Rogers has been in incredible form at Villa Park, scoring four goals in his last three Premier League appearances for the Lions.
The 23-year-old was once again pivotal to the Villans’ success in London, but his contributions have arguably gone unnoticed.

Morgan Rogers robbed of assist in Aston Villa win vs Chelsea
Rogers created the opportunity that led to Watkins’ first goal against Chelsea in the 2-1 win.
The midfielder played a sublime through ball for the striker to go through on goal, with his shot initially being saved by Robert Sanchez before ricocheting off the Englishman into the back of the net.
However, the former Middlesbrough star didn’t officially get the assist, something many Fantasy Premier League players will surely be aggrieved about.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football on 29 December, Lineker said, “How’s that not an assist. It’s such a great pass. It completely created the goal.”
Richards responded, “The only time I go on X is to go on FPL, and I was thinking, why hasn’t he got the assist. It just said ‘no one’. What do you mean no one? He’s given the ball on the plate. It’s rebounded off the keeper, and it’s gone off him. He’s played the ball to him. I’ve never been so angry in my life.”
Alan Shearer has also been impressed by Villa, with Emery’s team keeping hold of the third spot in the table and three points behind Arsenal after eight league wins in a row.
Aston Villa fans to be delighted with new supercomputer Premier League title prediction
Emery will look to temper the hopes of Villa fans in the Premier League, but it isn’t surprising to see them considered a contender in the title race.
Opta’s supercomputer has increased the Lions’ chances of winning the league to 7.55 per cent, with an expected points tally of 73.85.
| Team | Matches played | Points |
| 1. Arsenal | 18 | 42 |
| 2. Manchester City | 18 | 40 |
| 3. Aston Villa | 18 | 39 |
Even if the Villans don’t win the Premier League, the return of Champions League football at Villa Park will surely be a welcome sight.
Something special is certainly brewing in B6, and the situation will be one to watch closely.
