Morgan Rogers second only to Harry Kane in remarkable new reveal on Aston Villa star

Morgan Rogers is taking Europe by storm for Aston Villa.

Rogers has scored four goals in his last two games, and he is completely unstoppable at the moment.

Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Man United on Sunday has them firmly in the Premier League title race, and the former Middlesbrough man has been their talisman during the Villans’ 10-match winning run in all competitions.

Unai Emery’s side face away trips to Chelsea and Arsenal before the turn of the year, and they’ll both be fully aware of the threat Rogers can pose from anywhere on the pitch.

His goal catalogue this season has been stunning, and only Harry Kane has been more effective in front of goal.

His meteoric rise to becoming one of England’s most talented players has been facilitated by the faith Emery placed in him, and this has led to Rogers renewing his Aston Villa contract on 10 November.

The 23-year-old has netted seven goals from an xG total of just 2.86 in the Premier League this season.

His +4.14 xG overperformance is the second-highest of any player across Europe’s big five leagues, with only Kane topping that with a figure of +5.97.

It’s not just in front of goal where he shines, and he has often been the architect of Villa’s play in the final third.

According to FotMob, he has created 16 chances in the top flight and registered 67 touches in the opposition box.

He ranks 91.2 per cent higher than all other attacking midfielders in the Premier League for touches in the opposition box, and is fast becoming one of the best players in the country.

Rogers’ slow start to the season led to doubts over his potential place in the England starting lineup, but he has shown in recent weeks that he should start at the 2026 World Cup.

What Troy Deeney said about Morgan Rogers is spot on

Deeney has previously praised Rogers for the impact he’s had at Aston Villa, and the ex-Birmingham striker continued to wax lyrical about his performances.

He named Rogers in his Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport and said: “The man of the moment. Two goals again – both wonderful finishes against Manchester United.

“Is Rogers the guy to lead England? Do you leave out [Jude] Bellingham? [Phil] Foden? [Cole] Palmer? Just how well he is playing would suggest you would have to have a serious conversation about it.”

It’s clear that Thomas Tuchel has preferred Rogers to England’s other stars during international breaks, and if he continues his fine run of form, there will be little debate for who starts in attacking midfield.
