Aston Villa omens point to shock Premier League title triumph thanks to 128-year high

Aston Villa are smashing records left, right and centre under Unai Emery right now.

Villa edged out Manchester United in a 2-1 win at a bouncing Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Villans are now up to third place in the Premier League, and are closing in on Arsenal, now just three points behind the Gunners, who are in first.

Emery may have Rogers to thank due to the Englishman’s double, but the Villa boss has been truly instrumental on this remarkable run of 10 wins.

Not only have Villa won seven consecutive Premier League matches for the first time in the competition, but they are closing in on an exciting 128-year win percentage.

Aston Villa now have a 67% win percentage

Villa started the season horribly, failing to win any of their first six games in all competitions.

The attack in particular was poor, as Emery was left frustrated at his side, who only scored two goals during this period.

But following the win over United, Aston Villa have won their 16th game of the campaign before the halfway point.

Aston Villa’s updated win percentage and record

Aston Villa have won 16 out of their 24 games in all competitions this season, boasting a win percentage of 67 per cent.

In the Premier League alone, Villa have now won 64.7 per cent of their games.

The last time the Villans had a higher win percentage in a single season was back in the 1896-97 season with 70 per cent.

Does anybody know what Villa did that year? That’s right – English champions.

It’s truly moments like these where, as a Villa fan, you have to sit back and enjoy the good moments. The change in form since the start of the season is too drastic to put into words.

Aston Villa can still fall back on Europa League dream

Villa’s next two Premier League fixtures are going to be difficult, with away games against Chelsea and table-toppers Arsenal.

Obviously, everyone will look at the Arsenal showdown as the one that could make-or-break Villa’s season.

While it will be pivotal for a chance of winning the title, even if the Villans come up short, it could be a blessing in disguise.

If the Premier League dream starts to fade away in the coming weeks, that only means Emery’s full focus will go on the Europa League.

As it stands, Villa are favourites to win the Europa League. One way or another, silverware could very well be coming back to B6 at the end of this season.
