Man United fans fume at latest Premier League announcement – ‘Straight win for Aston Villa’

A mouth-watering Premier League showdown takes centre stage at Villa Park on Sunday as Aston Villa host Manchester United.

Aston Villa have emerged as shock Premier League title contenders in recent weeks after winning six league games on the bounce.

Unai Emery required some Morgan Rogers magic last time out to continue that winning run as Aston Villa came from behind to beat West Ham 3-2 at the London Stadium.

Now, Villa have been predicted to beat Man United by Opta’s supercomputer, and one announcement has angered the opposition fanbase.

Man United are angry at Michael Oliver’s appointment

The Premier League revealed that Michael Oliver will referee this weekend’s showdown at Villa Park, and United supporters have since expressed their anger at that decision.

Oliver has made multiple errors when refereeing Man United matches, with many fans feeling that his appointment has handed an advantage to Emery’s men.

“Wow…now we’ve got a candle’s chance in a cyclone of drawing this game much less winning,” someone commented.

“He’s going to be man of the match,” one supporter wrote, while a third stated: “The game is over for us.”

“United vs 12 men again. It’s game after game,” another said, feeling sorry for themselves, and a seventh replied: “Haa. It’s done.”

Oliver helped Aston Villa vs Manchester City

While United are fearful of Oliver refereeing the clash, Aston Villa were helped by the official earlier in the season.

In October, Aston Villa secured a 1-0 victory over Man City thanks to Matty Cash’s screamer from outside the box, but the game wasn’t short of controversial incidents.

Oliver was wrong to award Villa’s corner against Man City in the build-up to the Poland international’s strike, with Clinton Morrison pointing out his mistake.

Former PGMOL official Keith Hackett also felt that Morgan Rogers was fortunate not to concede a penalty after pushing Josko Gvardiol in the box.

“Yes, Aston Villa got the rub of the green from the Match Official who failed to penalise that earlier push by Morgan Rogers on Gvardiol,” Hackett told Villa News at the time.

Officials in the Premier League frankly are taking rather a lenient approach on pushing offences, hiding behind what appears to be an instruction around the impact of the holding or pushing offences an opponent. This is promoting inconsistency.”
