Ridiculous Harvey Elliott news emerges as FIFA laws block Aston Villa star’s transfer

Harvey Elliott has been linked with an impossible move away from Aston Villa.

Elliott joined Aston Villa on deadline day from Liverpool, but has failed to make the impact he would have desired at Villa Park.

The attacking midfielder last featured as Villa secured a 3-1 win over Fulham back in September, almost 80 days ago.

That has ramped up rumours that Elliott could leave Aston Villa in the winter, with the hope of ending his horror loan spell in the Midlands.

One report has now emerged surrounding Elliott’s future that is utterly farcical and goes against FIFA and UEFA rules entirely.

Harvey Elliott wrongly linked to Leeds United and Brentford

Bryan King doesn’t understand why Villa signed Elliott, but a loan deal for the England under-21 international was agreed in the summer.

Should he play 10 games in claret and blue, the Villans would be forced to pay a fee in the region of £35million for his signature, if reports are to be believed.

That fee has likely played a role in why his gametime has collapsed so quickly, since it’s sizable for someone who will never be a guaranteed starter in B6.

This has left Elliott stuck between a rock and a hard place because he has already played for two teams so far this season, Villa and Liverpool, so he is unable to play for a third.

FIFA rules state: “Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs.

Despite this, a report has emerged on 16 December that Leeds United and Brentford want to sign the 22-year-old on loan if his Villa spell is cut short in January.

A temporary move to either one of these sides wouldn’t allow for the Englishman to play a game, so it is a completely ridiculous suggestion.

Elliott could still leave Aston Villa for an ‘overlapping season’

An “exclusive report” has suggested that “Brentford and Leeds are both prepared to offer unsettled midfielder Harvey Elliott a Premier League lifeline.”

Do two sides fighting a relegation battle want Elliott to join to become a loanee cheerleader in their dressing room for the second half of the season? Probably not.

This could be possible in the summer when squads reset, but for now, the playmaker has filled his playing quota for the rest of the season in Europe.

The door to elsewhere in the Premier League is shut, but it isn’t on other continents, with the FIFA rules opening Elliott up to a move to “overlapping seasons”.

An exception to this rule, a player moving between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (i.e. start of the season in summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring) may be eligible to play in official matches for a third club during the relevant season, provided he has fully complied with his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs.

Villa’s number nine may be able to join a club somewhere like Brazil or America, but considering Brentford and Leeds don’t play on a different calendar, they probably won’t be interested…
