Ezri Konsa limits know no bounds as Aston Villa star leads every Premier League player in one area

Ezri Konsa has been pivotal to Aston Villa’s rise in the Premier League table this season.

With Unai Emery‘s side sitting third after 15 matches, they have thrived off a string of solid defensive performances where Konsa has led the backline remarkably.

Having to juggle the intense schedule that comes with European football, his availability has been crucial to Villa’s success over the past few seasons.

Konsa has been there for all the highs and lows since Aston Villa’s promotion to the Premier League in 2019, and his development has skyrocketed under the Spanish manager.

In 2025-26, his performances have risen to a completely new level, and he now leads the way for the Premier League player with the highest pass accuracy from open play.

Ezri Konsa tops Premier League charts for impressive passing stat

Konsa became the ninth player to make 200 Premier League appearances for Villa in the 2-1 win over Tottenham, and the first to do so under Emery.

The centre-back has featured in 14 top-flight matches this season, with nine of those matches resulting in wins for the Villans.

According to Opta, Konsa has completed 95.2 per cent of his passes from open play, which is more than any other player in the Premier League.

The centre-back is extremely comfortable on the ball, and it still feels as though Konsa is going under the radar despite being one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

He has also won 57.7 per cent of his aerial duels and 63.6 per cent of his ground duels.

Following his emergence at Villa, Konsa broke into the England team in 2024, and Thomas Tuchel has been hugely impressed with how he’s playing.

Konsa equalled an England record that saw him win 11 games in a row for the Three Lions, and that typifies the impact he has for both club and country.

With John Stones always fighting to maintain full fitness, the 28-year-old has now surpassed both him and Marc Guehi as Tuchel’s most valuable centre-back.

Having broken through at Charlton in December 2015, Konsa’s 10-year rise to the heights of the Premier League is unique, to say the least.

Ezri Konsa’s journey to the top is inspirational

Since moving to Aston Villa from Brentford in 2019, he has made 258 appearances for Emery’s side, highlighting his gradual rise in English football.

The 28-year-old joined Villa when they were solely focused on avoiding Premier League relegation, and times have certainly changed since then.

He has gone from scoring a dramatic winner over relegation rivals Watford in January 2020 to scoring a huge goal in a Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain in April 2025.

With his first England cap not coming until November 2023, he’s certainly had to be patient for his opportunities, and his loyalty to Villa has certainly paid off.

Villa’s number four is turning into a modern-day legend, and the sky is the limit for what he can go on to achieve in B6.
