Aston Villa given positive omen ahead of Wolves clash after stunning Unai Emery feat

Aston Villa will be confident of extending their dominant home form over rivals Wolves when the two sides meet on Sunday.

Villa’s 2-1 win over Young Boys was a fairly comfortable affair, and despite only having three days of rest to prepare for the Wolves clash, they’ll fancy their chances

Wolves are still looking for their first Premier League win of the season, and it’s certainly the wrong time to face Unai Emery‘s side, who have lost only once in their last 30 matches at Villa Park.

Aston Villa are favourites to beat Wolves, and they boast a spotless record in Premier League games that are played after European midweeks.

Aston Villa superb in league matches played after European games

New Wolves manager Rob Edwards returns to Villa Park to take on the club he started his playing career at in 1999.

Aston Villa have won 100 per cent (4/4) of their Premier League matches immediately after playing in Europe during the week.

They are the only English side to achieve this, and these wins have all come at Villa Park.

The hard-fought win over Man City, and the thrashing of Bournemouth both took place when Villa had less than three days to prepare.

In the eight Champions League phase matches last season, Villa won only one match after playing in Europe, marking a significant improvement in how Emery is balancing the busy schedule.

Aston Villa lost 2-0 to Wolves in their last meeting, and despite not suffering a home defeat to their opponents since 2021, the clash on 30 November will have an added level of intensity.

Aston Villa’s head-to-head record vs Wolves is hugely impressive

Aston Villa have won seven matches in a row at Villa Park, but their derby matches against Wolves are never straightforward.

Historically, Villa have recorded more wins, and it certainly seems as if Sunday’s match can only go in one direction, but recent history certainly contradicts that.

Aston Villa’s head-to-head record vs Wolves:

Villa have lost twice to Wolves at home since 2020, and they’ve struggled to break their rivals down on the road.

Unai Emery has recorded two wins, two draws, and two losses against Edwards’ side since becoming the Villa manager in November 2022.
