Tyrone Mings tops Aston Villa stat that may surprise many Aston Villa fans

Tyrone Mings has been an incredible servant for Aston Villa and has topped another statistic that may surprise supporters.

Mings is out with a hamstring injury until mid-December, which will be a huge blow for Unai Emery as the busy schedule approaches.

Mings has suffered plenty of injuries throughout his career, but he has always come back into the team with the same determination and passion that has made him beloved by fans.

His athleticism is well-know to Aston Villa supporters, but few will be aware that he leads the way for achieving the highest top speed of any player under Emery in the Premier League this season.

Tyrone Mings is the fastest Aston Villa player in the Premier League

Mings joined Villa from Bournemouth in 2019, and he has since played 179 games and scored six goals.

The English defender has reached a top speed of 32.55km per hour, the highest figure of any Villa player in the Premier League this season.

Ollie Watkins is the closest to reaching his top speed at 32.39km per hour.

Mings has also registered a pass accuracy of 89.8 per cent, while winning 23 aerial duels in the top flight.

The 32-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions this season, and it’s clear that he still provides a huge asset to the team’s performances.

During the 2024-25 Premier League campaign, Mings won 63.5 per cent of his ground duels, and despite being 1.96m tall, his speed and strength have been a huge part of what makes him so effective.

Although Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa may take the limelight as Villa’s centre-backs, the ex-Bournemouth defender’s leadership certainly plays a telling role on performances in B6.

Mings extended his contract in the summer, with the deal leaving him at Villa Park until June 2027.

Tyrone Mings still valued incredibly highly by Unai Emery

Mings has been impressive throughout his Villa career, playing a key role in getting them from a team that is fighting relegation to one that is competing in the Champions League.

Torres has impressed on the left side of defence, but Mings has been used ahead of him whenever he’s been fit to start this season.

Over the last decade, we’ve only seen a handful of English defenders who have maintained a starting role in the Premier League.

It’s clear to see that Mings is one of the few to have achieved longevity in the top flight, and if it weren’t for his injury troubles, he would be more than capable of fighting for a place in the England squad.
