Tyrone Mings was brought off injured in the first half of Aston Villa's 3-1 win against Fulham on Sunday.

The defender was replaced by Pau Torres in the 32nd minute after he fell to the floor.

Mings has been favoured over Torres this season, with the Spaniard struggling for form, despite a successful 2024-25 campaign.

Given Mings' history of anterior cruciate ligament injuries, there had been concerns that he would be out for a while, but thankfully, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Tyrone Mings to return for Aston Villa after the October international break

Aston Villa beat Bologna 1-0 last time out in the competition and will be hoping to continue their winning run against the Dutch side.

Robin van Persie will be in the opposition dugout, with his side top of the Dutch Eredivisie and yet to lose a league game.

It will be a tough test for Emery, which would've been made easier if Mings were available for selection.

According to The Athletic journalist Jacob Tanswell on X, the defender is expected to return following the international break.

  • Mings missed 446 days following an ACL injury he sustained in August 2023
  • Earlier in his career, at Bournemouth, he had a cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for 388 days

He will miss the games against Feyenoord and Burnley following an ankle injury, but is expected to return for the visit to Tottenham on 19 October.

His injury compounds Villa's current problems, with Amadou Onana, Youri Tielemans and Ross Barkley all also unavailable.

Tyrone Mings could be moved on by Aston Villa next summer

Mings' current contract at Aston Villa runs until 2027, but the Villans could look to offload him next summer.

His injury problems have caused Emery issues over the last two seasons, and they are not slowing down.

At 32 years old, Mings could benefit from a move away from the physically demanding Premier League.

Either way, Villa have changed their transfer strategy and are looking to build for the future, and it is difficult to see where the defender would fit into that.
