Aston Villa wrap up Morgan Rogers terms ahead of January, £80m+ bid could be accepted

Aston Villa have set a price tag of over £80million for Morgan Rogers ahead of the winter window.

Rogers has now linked up with the England squad, ready for the November international break under Thomas Tuchel.

Villa tied Rogers down to a new deal beforehand with a view to keeping hold of the 23-year-old until 2031.

The news has gone down well at Villa Park, with Ollie Watkins congratulating Rogers after his contract extension was announced.

Rogers may still attract January interest from elsewhere, with the Villans setting out their stall with over a month remaining until the winter window opens.

Aston Villa set Morgan Rogers asking price

The England international has been a star in claret and blue ever since making his shock switch from Championship side Middlesbrough.

Rogers has stood up and shone for Villa, continuing to perform well in recent weeks despite a difficult start to the season.

The B6 club rewarded him with fresh terms to make him one of the best-paid players at Bodymoor Heath, and deservedly so.

That may not prove sufficient to deter winter transfer interest, especially after the likes of Chelsea were linked in the summer.

Finance expert Dan Plumley believes Rogers’ new contract will go some way to increasing Villa’s asking price with January fast approaching.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Plumley said: “Ultimately, if you look at some of the numbers in the summer that were talked about, if you roll that forward and Villa have given him a wage uplift and given a clear intent of wanting to keep hold of him.

If anyone is going to take a look at him, it’s going to be higher than the numbers that have already been seen.

Maybe the timing is relevant because we aren’t too far away from the January window.

There may have been a conversation over whether he was going to stay at Villa. If there is going to be a conversation now, and it was £80m in the summer, it’s going to be more now.

Rogers could cost Premier League record fee

The attacking midfielder is one of the brightest talents in the entire division and for his national side right now.

That is bound to culminate in transfer interest from some elite sides in the upcoming transfer windows, which will test Villa’s resolve.

The claret and blue outfit sold Jack Grealish to Manchester City for £100m and could replicate a similar feat with Rogers.

Given the current state of football finances, there is every chance that the current Villa star could surpass that and potentially break other existing Premier League records.

Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz cost Liverpool £125m and £116m respectively, while Chelsea paid £106m for Enzo Fernandez.

Rogers could come in at a similar price to the Sweden international and potentially break the record after signing his new deal in B6.
