Aston Villa make ‘big commitment’ to Morgan Rogers counteraction amid UEFA constraints

Aston Villa have tied Morgan Rogers down to a new contract.

Rogers penned fresh terms with Villa earlier in the week to keep him in B6 until 2031 after a positive run of form under Unai Emery.

The England international has been electric ever since Villa signed Rogers from Middlesbrough in a surprise deal in January 2024.

The attacking midfielder has joined Matty Cash and John McGinn in signing new deals with Villa to protect the current stars of the claret and blue outfit.

Villa have moved to secure the future of Rogers with a view to thwarting UEFA rulings that have been a constant source of frustration at Villa Park.

Aston Villa fight against exit links with Morgan Rogers contract

Ollie Watkins was delighted to see Rogers sign a deal with the Villans after what has been an excellent spell as a duo.

Keeping the Englishman at Bodymoor Heath with his long-term future in check can only be seen as a benefit.

Chelsea were linked with a move for the attacking midfielder over the summer and would have likely returned their interest in January or next summer.

Villa were somewhat forced to part ways with the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Douglas Luiz in recent years, and won’t want to face a similar fate with Rogers.

Finance expert Dan Plumley believes a new deal for the Villa star will help stop that happening again, even with financial rules in mind.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Plumley said: “It’s a commitment from Villa. Given his trajectory, and it’s been a pretty rapid one, he’s really come on in the last 18 months or so.

It’s a big commitment from Villa to put him near the top of the earners. It’s a reward internally to show that he is valued at the club.

We know the wider optics at Villa, with UEFA and their financial constraints they’ve been under, with the way their market is they haven’t wanted to sell, but they’ve had to.

This is a counteraction to that, to try and hold onto one of their superstars.

How much will Aston Villa pay Rogers for new contract?

It is obviously a great thing for the Villans to have tied down the jewel in the crown after two stellar years since his move from the Championship.

The Englishman has taken a sizable pay increase with his new deal, with his weekly salary jumping to a potential figure in the region of £120k per week.

With 2026 around the corner, the number 27 will have five years remaining on his deal, allowing for a sizable payout with his base wage alone.

If he sees out the entirety of this deal, without bonuses, Rogers will earn a fee of roughly £31.2million, spread across a five-year period that equates to £6.24m per year.

It’s a sizable outlay for the B6 outfit, but there’s no doubt at this stage that the ex-West Brom youngster is worth every penny.
