Pau Torres importance hard to ignore amid stunning Aston Villa run under Unai Emery

Pau Torres is going from strength to strength as he continues to be a crucial part of Aston Villa’s fantastic home form.

Villa Park has become a fortress under Unai Emery, and after winning six home games in a row in all competitions, Aston Villa are flourishing in both the Premier League and the Europa League.

Pau Torres has come under scrutiny for his performances in an Aston Villa shirt this season, yet his composure and ability on the ball have made him irreplaceable in the starting lineup.

After another impressive display in Villa’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth, a new stat has highlighted that Villa are virtually unbeatable when Torres has played in B6.

Pau Torres continues to shine at Villa Park

Aston Villa have risen up to sixth in the Premier League table, recovering brilliantly from their woeful start to the campaign.

In the Premier League, Torres has registered a pass accuracy of 89 per cent, whilst making seven tackles.

Villa are unbeaten in their last 19 home matches that Torres has started, whilst only losing two of their last 35 home games he’s featured in from the start.

Torres joined Villa for £31.5million from Villarreal in 2023, and he has made 86 appearances in that time.

His ability to carry the ball out of defence is a key reason as to why Villa have been so successful, and he registered a dribble success rate of 88.2 per cent in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

Torres has been criticised for some defensive lapses in away matches, with the loss to Go Ahead Eagles on 23 October highlighting his issues away from home.

However, it’s clear that he is incredibly influential on the team at Villa Park, and playing alongside Ezri Konsa has improved his overall game massively.

Ezri Konsa’s influence has hugely benefited Pau Torres

Having spent over six seasons in B6, Konsa has emerged as one of the best centre-backs in the country and has developed both mentally and physically on the pitch.

In the Premier League this season, Konsa has made 27 recoveries and nine blocks, and his importance has been highlighted in the wins over Fulham, Man City, and Tottenham.

Following his emergence at Villa, he broke into the England team in 2024, and Thomas Tuchel remains hugely impressed with how he’s playing.

As one of Emery’s most important players, the England international provides a level of calmness and maturity at the back, and it has been transmitted to Torres’ form at Villa Park.
