Fabrizio Romano shares Aston Villa transfer news with Pau Torres medical set to be booked

Aston Villa are set to book medical tests this week as they look to finalise the transfer of Pau Torres from Villarreal this week, after documents were completed with the Spanish club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano has revealed today that the Aston Villa medical is set, with the central defender returning to football after getting married a week ago, he also details that a club statement is ready.

Torres will join the Villans for an initial transfer fee of £30million, with £4.2million in possible add-ons which can be achieved throughout his time in England. This will be Villa’s second signing of the summer after Youri Tielemans arrived on a free transfer on 1 July.

Getting this deal over the line will be a huge boost

Completing a deal for a defender who is so highly regarded in football, having been linked to super-clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Serie A champions Napoli, will be a huge boost to Villa ahead of the new season, as the club look to build on their seventh-placed finish last time out.

Villa are showing serious levels of ambition in the transfer market so far this summer, after completing a deal for Youri Tielemans who was expected to join a champions league club just a year ago, while the Villans have also been linked to former Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, and Barcelona forward Ferran Torres.

The purchase of Torres from Villarreal is a display of the pull Unai Emery possesses, with his reputation as a manager, particularly amongst players he’s previously worked with, a major factor in drawing players to the club. It’s hard to imagine a player of Torres’ calibre would’ve joined without his influence.

In other Aston Villa news, a loan-to-buy deal for this Barcelona star could still be on the cards.
