Everything Morgan Rogers has said as new Aston Villa contract agreement announced
Morgan Rogers has spoken out after his new contract at Aston Villa was confirmed.
Rogers has been linked to a new Villa deal for many weeks as the Villa Park club looked set to reward his form with a wage increase.
The Villans may have entered a release clause in Rogers’ contract as a deterrent against transfer interest recurring from the summer.
Chelsea were interested in Rogers, but opted against signing the England international, handing the B6 club an opportunity to cement his future.
Rogers has now made his feelings known after the claret and blue outfit announced the confirmation of the attacking midfielder’s contract signing.
What Morgan Rogers said after signing Aston Villa contract
Rogers was on top form against Maccabi Tel Aviv as he arguably single-handedly dragged the home side through a tough Europa League outing.
The 23-year-old was able to showcase his level of talent and continued to do so as Villa secured a 4-0 win against Bournemouth on Sunday.
The good feeling has continued into a new week with the announcement of the attacking midfielder’s new contract coming less than 24 hours after beating the Cherries.
Rogers has since discussed his delight with his deal and the reasoning behind extending his stay at Villa Park in an interview on VillaTV.
He said: “I’m so happy. Obviously, the faith from people at the club is really nice, it’s a really nice feeling, and I couldn’t wait to sign, so I’m really happy. It’s home, and obviously, being from the area, it makes it that bit sweeter. The manager, the players, the staff, everyone here is so welcoming and so warm every day.
“I’m excited to come in and train, work and give my all every day for the club, and I really enjoy it, and that’s the most important thing for me to enjoy my football and be able to express myself. There’s no reason why I wouldn’t want to stay here.
“That’s my goals and ambitions [to play for England], and this club has allowed me to do that and show everything I’m about, to improve and to learn and develop. Reaching those milestones here makes it that bit nicer. It’s a really nice feeling and moment, but it’s just about keeping that going now.
“It’s everything [Emery’s support], especially with the things I’ve been through in the past with different teams, when you get a manager that’s so on your side and warming to you, that wants to help and always wants to improve you and that real good relationship with someone like that is nice and for it to be a manager that’s so highly thought of in the game, it’s a really nice feeling. I have a really good relationship with him, and I can’t wait to keep working with him and develop and progress together.
“I think as a group we’re all on the line that we can push this thing even further. We’ve come a long way in such a short space of time, but we’ve got the ability, we’ve got the players, and we’ve definitely got the staff and the manager as well. We can’t see why not. Of course, it gets harder each year and each team gets better and better, and the Premier League gets harder and harder, but we’re getting better with that, and we’ve got to adapt and learn and get better. It’s just exciting times ahead.
“We’re quite a young group; there’s experience within it, but we’re quite young, and we’re going through stuff together, and we’re just getting stronger.“
Rogers deserved to pen new Aston Villa contract
There haven’t been many more successful signings in the Midlands than the number 27 in recent years.
Rogers was a surprise signing from Middlesbrough after Emery was left impressed by the Englishman after an FA Cup clash at the Riverside.
The West Brom academy product has gone on to be a sensation in claret and blue and has defied expectations above anyone’s wildest dreams.
He needed to be offered a new deal to put him among the best-paid and rated players within the entire Villa squad.
This will also help put off other Premier League sides who may have been interested in making a January or summer swoop for the B6 superstar.
