Emi Buendia leaves Sky Sports pundit in hysterics with hilarious Aston Villa fail vs Bournemouth

Emi Buendia was the obvious star of the first half for Aston Villa against Bournemouth but got laughed at live on air for one “sloppy” let down.

The Argentine put his side ahead with a wonderful free-kick midway through the half and was generally the busiest and most threatening man in Unai Emery‘s XI in the first 45 minutes.

He spent the opening half putting the effort in attack and defence, and it was a shining example of the latter which drew plaudits from Sky Sports pundit Andy Reid, but also left the Irishman and commentator Daniel Mann unable to contain their laughter immediately after.

He more than made up for it with the goal as Aston Villa took control against Bournemouth before the break.

Emi Buendia laughed at by Andy Reid over corner concession

In the 13th minute Bournemouth broke away after Buendia‘s shot from an Aston Villa corner sequence was blocked on the edge of the box as Marcus Tavernier rang the length of the pitch down the left.

Impressively, Buendia sprinted after him all the way back towards his own penalty area, blocked the attempted cross deep in his own half, then dispossessed Tavernier close to the corner flag.

However, he then undid all of his good work by attempting to pass square out of trouble to Matty Cash but put it straight over the line for a corner.

“Buendia with great defensive diligence, but [laughing] at the end of it…”, Mann said live on the Sky Sports match coverage.

Reid cut in: “You spoke too soon there [both laughing]. He done brilliant. He must have sprinted back 50, 60 yards, done absolutely great, made the block, and then [laughing] he’s just gone sloppy and given away a corner kick.”

Another blank for Ollie Watkins

Much has understandably been made of Ollie Watkins’ goal drought, with just one for Aston Villa all season.

It was more of the frustrating same for the England international in the first half against the Cherries, although Buendia and Amadou Onana‘s excellent strikes stopped it being a major issue for Emery.

Having gone into the break with a 2-0 lead and command of the play it is surely a major opportunity for Watkins to get in on the action and take the pressure off himself looking forward.
