Supercomputer predicts outcome of Aston Villa vs Bournemouth in Premier League

Aston Villa are expected to come out on top when they host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

Goals from Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen gave Villa a comfortable win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday that moved them up to sixth place in the Europa League table.

Unai Emery‘s men have paid for their poor start to the season, and despite winning four of their last five Premier League games, they sit 11th in the table.

Aston Villa struggled to turn up against Liverpool in their last league match, and they face a quick turnaround for their match against Bournemouth at Villa Park on Sunday.

The Cherries come into the match off the back of a 3-1 loss to Man City; however, Andoni Iraola’s side will be a huge test for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa favourites to beat Bournemouth

Bournemouth currently sit fifth in the Premier League after a fantastic start to the campaign, only losing matches to Liverpool and Man City.

According to Opta‘s supercomputer, Villa will continue their fine home form under Emery this season, perhaps to the surprise of buoyant Cherries fans.

Villa have multiple issues to address across the pitch, yet their home form since August has been exemplary, winning five from five at Villa Park since the 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

Ollie Watkins has disappointed for large parts of this season, and if he can step up his game, Villa will be a lot more threatening in the final third than they have been so far.

Morgan Rogers is finally looking back to his best, and should Villa secure all three points, it will come down to his influence on the match.

A potential worry is Bournemouth’s efficiency on the counter-attack, and Villa’s defenders must be aware of the danger posed by the likes of Antoine Semenyo and Eli Kroupi.

Villa are unbeaten in their last five top-flight games against Bournemouth, having lost four in a row against the Cherries before this run.

Bournemouth are also winless in their past three visits to Villa Park.

Aston Villa’s build-up in possession will key vs Bournemouth

Not only have Bournemouth made a wonderful start to the season, reaching second in the table prior to their Man City loss, but they are also well-known for how effectively they press teams in their final third.

After Emi Martinez’s howler versus Liverpool, it’s clear that there are still nerves at the back in possession.

Against high-quality opposition, Villa won’t be well-versed to play through the pitch, and a change in style could benefit them massively against the Cherries.

They’ll have to be incredibly careful, yet if Villa can break through that first press, the game is there for their taking.
