Harvey Elliott to Liverpool return possible after what was seen at Villa Park
Harvey Elliott’s Aston Villa career could be over already after scenes witnessed live from the stands at Villa Park on Thursday.
Aston Villa beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0 in the Europa League, as Unai Emery has the Villans in a comfortable place in the competition.
Morgan Rogers had a great performance and showed once again that he is truly back to his best.
However, Rogers’ performances of late have prevented Elliott from getting game time, and a return to Liverpool in January now seems more likely than ever.

Unai Emery used all of his substitutes, but not Harvey Elliott
Elliott has been heavily linked with an Aston Villa exit, as the versatile attacker continues to warm Emery’s bench.
Monchi, who has now left the club, brought Elliott to B6 in the summer, as it now seems clear that he was never wanted by Emery.
- Elliott has made just five appearances for Villa in all competitions
- He has managed just one start and 97 minutes of football in the Premier League this campaign
- In the 2023-24 season, Elliott featured 53 times for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool
Aston Villa reporter Jacob Tanswell shared on X the scenes that he saw from the stands at Villa Park, and what now seems “all too familiar” for the Liverpool loanee.
Tanswell said: “Harvey Elliott, in his tracksuit and with five subs all used, goes down the tunnel a few minutes left.
“He applauds the fans nearby, probably readying himself for some all too familiar post-match runs.”
In a game where Villa were cruising, Emery had the perfect opportunity to give Elliott a chance to shine, but never did.
Harvey Elliott’s loan can be terminated by mutual consent
There is a buy obligation in Elliott’s contract with Aston Villa, which sounds like the Villans must make the move permanent. However, this is not the case.
Elliott needs to play a certain number of games to trigger the obligation, which is valued at £35m.
For Liverpool to bring him back as early as January, there would need to be agreement from all three parties (Liverpool, Villa and Elliott) to allow an early termination of the contract by mutual consent.

There’s a high chance that the Reds won’t want Elliott’s transfer value to dip further at Villa, as they may have to offload him in the summer for a cut price.
This makes it highly likely that Liverpool will do what they can to bring Elliott back before loaning him out to another side in the January transfer window.
