Aston Villa player ratings vs Maccabi Tel Aviv: Morgan Rogers steps up, 3/10 terrible again
Aston Villa secured a 2-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday.
Villa lost 2-1 to Go Ahead Eagles last time out in the Europa League, so they were in need of three points at Villa Park.
There was considerable controversy surrounding the clash, with Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned from Villa Park due to safety concerns.
A peculiar atmosphere surrounded B6 as UEFA officials were present for protests surrounding the Villa clash, and it appeared to have had an impact on the home side’s performance.
Eventually, Ian Maatsen opened the scoring, and Donyell Malen made it two from the spot as the home side were able to see out an easy victory.
Now, Villa News has rated each player’s performance out of 10.
Morgan Rogers stands up to be counted vs Maccabi Tel Aviv
Maccabi Tel Aviv was at the centre of a huge controversy pre-match in the Midlands, with fans banned from the ground weeks in advance.
That did seem to affect the early showing in B6, but was brought to an end by one man, Morgan Rogers.
The England international demanded the ball at every opportunity, particularly in the first half and managed to make a positive impact.

Rogers created the most chances of the match with three and also took three shots of his own throughout his 63 minutes on the pitch.
The 23-year-old also won two duels and was fouled once as he showcased his talents once again in claret and blue.
Evann Guessand struggles again for Aston Villa
Many fans are giving Evann Guessand the benefit of the doubt in what is his first half-season with the Villans.
That may be the case, but against a side like Maccabi Tel Aviv, Emery surely has to expect more from a £30million-plus summer signing.
The Ivory Coast international remained on the pitch for 73 minutes in B6, but failed to take a single shot or create a chance for a teammate.

Guessand kept up a zero per cent cross accuracy and was dispossessed twice, summing up his shocking performance on the night.
The winger also lost five duels and committed three fouls, as not even his defensive work became a silver lining this time around.
