Emi Buendia injury may evolve quickly at Aston Villa as ‘severe’ latest drops amid Villa Park footage

Emi Buendia could face further trouble with injury after missing out as Aston Villa lost to Liverpool.

Buendia has been a surprise star for Villa this season after returning from an underwhelming loan spell with Bayer Leverkusen.

The Argentine was strongly linked with a move away over the summer, with Leeds United showcasing a long-term interest in Buendia.

Unai Emery stuck by the attacking midfielder and has reaped the rewards, but will have been gutted to see the 28-year-old hobble off as Aston Villa beat Manchester City 1-0.

Buendia missed out on the Liverpool defeat last time out and could face a varied spell on the sidelines through injury.

Emi Buendia injury could quickly evolve at Aston Villa

The attacking midfielder did manage to walk off the pitch in B6 against City, but appears to have picked up a more significant problem than initially suspected.

Buendia was spotted on crutches at Villa Park after the claret and blue outfit secured a win over Pep Guardiola’s side.

He was unavailable for the trip to Anfield, with Emery ruling the number 10 out before suggesting that his recovery “is going well”.

Given that the area of injury was around the foot and ankle, there are concerns that Buendia’s condition could deteriorate rapidly.

Injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar has reviewed footage of the ex-Norwich star on crutches and believes that the problem could develop in several ways over the coming days and weeks.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Dr Brar said: “It’s quite difficult to say with foot injuries because foot and ankle anatomy is so robust, and things can evolve very quickly.

The boot and crutches could be a precautionary measure until they know more, or it could hint at something more severe.

What games could Buendia miss for Aston Villa?

It is unclear when the Argentine could return to action in claret and blue, but there is no shortage of fixtures coming up.

Villa are penned in to play five more games before the end of November, with Buendia already missing the away clash at Liverpool.

The 1996-born ace looks likely to miss out as the Villans face Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday and may make a return against Bournemouth on Saturday.

If not, the attacker could miss out on at least three fixtures should he make his next appearance against Leeds, Young Boys or Wolves before the end of the month.
