Simon Jordan disgusted by Aston Villa star after what Steve Bruce said: ‘You want to shoot him’

Simon Jordan couldn’t believe what Emi Martinez did as Aston Villa lost to Liverpool.

Martinez made an error against Liverpool and afforded Mohamed Salah the simplest of opportunities to open the scoring at Anfield.

The Argentina international came under scrutiny from the Villa Park faithful, with Stan Collymore coming after Martinez off the back of his mistake.

The gaffe allowed Liverpool to secure a 2-0 win against Villa, with the away side’s tactics arguably to blame.

Unai Emery’s type of approach has come under fire from Steve Bruce, as he spoke out via talkSPORT on 3 December, saying: “I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes back in and there’s a change [back to long throws]. All of a sudden, 12 months ago, you had to play from the back.

It had to be from your goalkeeper, out to your centre-backs, through the lines. We’re seeing a bit of a difference with it now.

Emi Martinez cost Aston Villa vs Liverpool

Villa have a shocking record away to Liverpool and needed all the luck they could get against the Premier League champions.

What the B6 club didn’t need was their goalkeeper to hand the ball on a plate to one of the greatest goalscorers in the history of the division.

It was that Jordan was left fuming by as his error put Villa behind with barely minutes remaining until the halftime whistle.

Jordan cut in over Bruce to add: “Look at what the Aston Villa goalkeeper does on Saturday, you want to shoot him, don’t you?

Martinez still has to face the brunt of complaints from the Villa fans as he ultimately cost the claret and blue outfit on the night.

Blame can be placed on the door of Emery, as it is his demands that see his stars play out from the back patiently.

Unai Emery was too stubborn vs Liverpool

Liverpool have seriously struggled with long balls this season, and that has been reflected in their form.

The Reds had fallen to five defeats in their last seven before facing the Villans, with passes over the top being a particular issue.

Villa should have seen that and adapted their style of play to mix up their slow build-up with a speedy counter-attack.

That wasn’t the case as Emery remained stuck in his ways and demanded that his team continue to play in their usual fashion.

Martinez certainly was to blame for his error, but if he had adopted a mindset of looking for longer passes, perhaps Salah wouldn’t have been given the chance to score on the night.
