Unai Emery sends brilliant personal message to travelling Aston Villa fans vs Feyenoord

Aston Villa continued their unbeaten run in the Europa League on Thursday with a 2-0 win over Feyenoord.

Unai Emery has come under scrutiny in recent weeks after a lacklustre start to the season, which saw Villa winless for the first five Premier League games.

Emery has won the Europa League four times as a manager and is looking to end Villa’s trophy drought in Europe that dates back to 1982.

Unai Emery thanks travelling Aston Villa supporters

Emi Buendia and John McGinn found themselves on the scoresheet on Thursday night, in what was Villa’s first away win in Europe since March when they won 3-1 at Club Brugge.

Emery has been a fan favourite at Villa since arriving, picking up Champions League football in his first full season at the club as they finished fourth.

After a slow start to the season for Aston Villa, they have turned it around and are now four games unbeaten, including a first Premier League win of the season at home to Fulham.

Emery thanked the travelling Villa fans on social media after the Feyenoord game as he said: “Massive thanks to our incredible fans who travelled to the Netherlands – your support made the difference today.

The team fought for every ball. Nights like this, we do it together. Up the Villa!”

Emery is looking to win his fifth Europa League, the most by any manager in history, and the first to win the competition with three different clubs – Aston Villa, Villarreal and Sevilla.

A tough run of games ahead for Aston Villa

After facing Burnley this weekend, Aston Villa have a busy October schedule returning from the international break.

Emery’s side travel away to Spurs and Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands, before welcoming a Manchester City side who are six games unbeaten in all competitions.

Emery has had some good results at home against City, picking two wins in two games at Villa Park.
