Aston Villa vs Burnley preview: Team news, line-ups, prediction

Aston Villa will look to make it two wins on the bounce in the Premier League as they return to Villa Park on Sunday to face Burnley.

Aston Villa beat Feyenoord 2-0 in the Europa League in Rotterdam on Thursday and continued their perfect start in the competition.

In their domestic campaign, the story has been one of disappointment with Villa’s win against Fulham at home last weekend their first of the season.

However, the tide looks to have turned for Unai Emery‘s side, who have won three on the spin across all competitions.

Next for Aston Villa is a clash with 18th-placed Burnley, who are looking to bounce back from a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Team news

Aston Villa are overwhelming favourites against Burnley, despite suffering from a handful of absences.

Tyrone Mings was ruled out of the game at De Kuip against Feyenoord following an injury sustained against Fulham, and his time on the sidelines looks to be extended past the upcoming fixture.

Midfielders Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans have had lengthy periods out of action, which look to finally be coming to a conclusion, but it remains to be seen whether Burnley may just be one game too early.

Jadon Sancho missed both the Fulham and Feyenoord games due to illness, but has been training in the meantime as he works to regain full fitness.

It seems to be a toss of a coin for who Aston Villa will start between Emi Martinez and Marco Bizot in goal.

As for Scott Parker, he will have to do without forward Zeki Amdouni and defender Conor Roberts, neither of whom has featured at all this season.

Predicted lineups

Aston Villa: Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne, Kamara, McGinn, Malen, Buendia, Rogers, Watkins

Burnley: Dubravka, Walker, Laurent, Ekdal, Esteve, Hartman, Tchaouna, Cullen, Luis, Anthony, Foster

Aston Villa's predicted XI to face Burnley in the Premier League

Score prediction: Aston Villa 3-0 Burnley

Villa have finally found their shooting boots, scoring two or more goals in each of their last two games after taking four games to score their first of the season.

Burnley will set up with a defence-first mentality, but Emery has enough creative weapons to break down any sturdy rearguard if they are on form.

John McGinn has popped up with goals in all of Villa’s wins, while Emi Buendia has found himself in good form.

The box-crashing ability of the midfield will be key as Burnley look to sit deep and defend their area.
