Aston Villa vs Burnley: Will Storm Amy affect Premier League showdown at Villa Park?

Storm Amy is expected to hit the UK on Friday, with several Premier League games at risk of terrible weather.

Aston Villa will play Feyenoord on Thursday, before returning to Premier League action against Burnley at Villa Park on Sunday.

It has been a positive week for Unai Emery, with the Villans winning twice at Villa Park courtesy of John McGinn winners.

Villa beat Fulham 3-1 on Sunday, in a game which also saw Ollie Watkins finally get his first goal of the season.

Emery had been under massive pressure at Villa, but questions surrounding the Spaniard’s job look to have subsided, for now at least.

Storm Amy should narrowly miss Villa vs Burnley

Storm Amy is expected to primarily affect the north of Scotland most harshly, but the north of England and some of Wales will be hit, too, according to the Met Office as of 2 October.

Strong winds of up to 80mph and extreme rain can be expected for the worst-hit areas, but Villa Park should narrowly avoid the path of the storm.

Manchester and Yorkshire is expected to fall in the affected area, with Birmingham luckily just outside of Storm Amy’s reaches.

The Met Office have currently labelled the parts immediately above Villa Park in yellow warning areas for Saturday, but further updates are expected in the coming days.

Unai Emery will hope Storm Amy does not affect momentum

While Storm Amy is expected to engulf and batter some parts of the UK, Emery will hope his side can do some engulfing and battering of their own when they play Burnley.

The Spaniard will have enjoyed his team’s resurgence over the past week, in the face of a truly terrible start to the season.

But the most important part will be maintaining that momentum, and that task begins when Villa play Feyenoord on Thursday.

Following games against the Dutch side and Burnley, Emery’s side are set for an extremely difficult run of fixtures.

Tottenham will visit Villa Park, with Villa then travelling to Go Ahead Eagles before returning to take on Manchester City. A match against Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield will then round off a nightmare run.
