Unai Emery must accept Aston Villa fate vs Fulham now if horrible reveal is anything to go by

Aston Villa will be on the hunt for their first three points of the Premier League season when they take on Fulham on Sunday.

Emery is under mounting pressure at Villa, after leading his team to a terrible start to the season.

The Villans narrowly missed out on the Champions League places last season, but have looked a shadow of their former self this season so far.

Nonetheless, Villa are favourites against Fulham, despite Marco Silva’s side enjoying a strong start.

Emi Martinez could return to the starting line-up against Fulham, after the goalkeeper missed out on the Bologna clash through injury.

Stats not in Aston Villa’s favour vs Fulham

Emery is expected to drop Morgan Rogers against Fulham, with the Spaniard needing to switch up his team.

The former Arsenal boss has often been accused of being stubborn with his tactics, waiting until it is too late to make a change.

But with Emery’s Villa future on the line, now may finally be the time for the 53-year-old to show some proactivity, especially amid some unattractive stats ahead of the game.

As pointed out by Aston Villa Statto on X, Villa are winless in their last 10 Premier League games played on a Sunday, with six of them ending in defeat.

Even more worrying is the fact that Villa’s 2.4 shots on target per game average in the Premier League this season is the lowest on record since 1997/98.

And to that tune, should the Villans fail to score on Sunday – marking their third consecutive top-flight game without a goal at home to open the season – they would have done so for the first time in 79 years.

There are positive stats for Villa vs Fulham

It is not all bad for Villa going into Sunday’s match, with some stats promising a positive day for Emery’s men.

Fulham have won just one of their last 21 away league games at Villa Park, losing their last six. Villa are also on a five-game winning streak, home and away, against the visitors.

Silva has lost six of his seven Premier League matches against Villa, the highest loss percentage (86 per cent) of any manager to face the Villans five or more times in the Premier League.
