Unai Emery could be in serious bother at Aston Villa within hours after what has been seen
Unai Emery has come under question from Aston Villa fans after a poor start to the season.
Aston Villa were better in the 1-0 win over Bologna, but still allowed the Italians to have far too many opportunities at Villa Park.
Ollie Watkins wasn’t at his best again for Villa, as he had a penalty saved and was largely ineffective in the Europa League tie.
Emery has had criticism for his team selection in recent weeks, with supporters questioning his decisions to continue with an out-of-form Watkins and Morgan Rogers up front.

Unai Emery is in bother if Aston Villa don’t beat Fulham
Monchi’s exit from Aston Villa caused concern that Emery’s position at Villa Park is more under threat than first thought.
The Spaniard has guided the Villans to two successive seasons with European football, but they have scored just one Premier League goal and are yet to find a win in this campaign.
With West Ham dismissing Graham Potter, the sacking season is well underway, and should the poor results continue, Aston Villa could choose to part ways with Emery in the coming months.
Villa are expected to make changes after last weekend’s disappointment as they look to get back to winning ways when they host Fulham on 28 September.
- Aston Villa have had to rely on two long-range efforts for results in their last two games
- They are yet to score from inside the box this season
- Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho are expected to start vs Fulham
Emery has developed a strong record against their opponents, and a defeat could land him in trouble.
Writing in the print edition of The Sun on 28 September, David Kidd said: “Their favourite visitors are turning up at Villa Park today.
“Emery’s Villa have defeated Marco Silva’s Fulham five out of five. If this doesn’t represent lift-off for Villa, then Emery is in bother.”
How long does Unai Emery have left to turn it around at Aston Villa?
The Villans had the easiest start to the season of any Premier League club, according to Opta Analyst, but failed to convert it into many points.
Supporters are still backing Emery, and rightly so, with how he has transformed the team over the last three years.
However, loyalty doesn’t last long in football, and with a tough set of fixtures ahead, Villa’s hierarchy could soon turn against the Spaniard.
The Villans have a packed schedule ahead, with tough Premier League fixtures against Tottenham and Liverpool, and Europa League games against Feyenoord and GA Eagles.
Emery is likely to be given some relief, but results will be expected to turn in November when they face Bournemouth and Leeds.
Should the Villans fail to accumulate plenty of points before then, the 53-year-old will be under plenty of pressure.
