Gary Neville shares what he finds ‘crazy’ about Aston Villa after Roy Keane interrupts him

Unai Emery hasn’t held back in his scrutiny towards the Aston Villa squad this season.

It is fair to say that uncertainty has surrounded Villa Park this campaign, something which hasn’t been helped by Villa’s defeat away to Sunderland last time out.

This has seen reports of a changing room bust-up between Emery and multiple Villa stars emerge at Bodymoor Heath.

As a result, Villa exit links have surrounded Emery in the past week, although the man himself has laughed off speculation surrounding his future in B6.

Now, Roy Keane has made his feelings clear on Emery, showcasing his approval after what the Spaniard told the press at the Stadium of Light.

Roy Keane happy with Unai Emery call-out at Aston Villa

Keane spoke out after Reinildo was sent off against Villa, suggesting that Matty Cash had milked the challenge to get the Sunderland man a red card.

Regardless of this, the ex-Black Cats boss has now shown love for the head coach in the Midlands after showing brutal honesty to his side.

This saw Emery blast his side after the 1-1 draw against the Mackems, with the squad and a number of individuals coming under fire.

The former PSG manager described his side’s performance as “lazy”, something which appears to have caught Gary Neville off guard as he read the Villa man’s quotes aloud.

Speaking via Stick to Football on 25 September, he said: “Unai Emery, a manager who I think we all admire. A team last season that we all admired.

“We have to look at our identity. We are frustrated and disappointed at how we played, how we are not playing. We were lazy sometimes. The goal we conceded was lazy.”

It is fair to say Keane was happy to see this, as he cut off his former teammate to say: “Love it. He’s dead right.”

Neville was left far from impressed by the Villans and believes this outburst from Emery was due to what he’s seen at Bodymoor Heath.

He added: “When you watch Villa, they were driving me crazy on Sunday. There’s players in that dressing room, they’re happy with themselves.

“A team that stepped off the gas, when a manager says something like that, he’s spotted a feeling in that dressing room that’s gone.”

Unai Emery spot on with Aston Villa verdict

Sometimes players just need to be told how it is when form continues to hit the fan.

There is no hiding away from how poor Villa have been this season, with a draw against 10-man Sunderland potentially being the tip of the iceberg.

Aston Villa Premier League results this campaign:

Now, fans are looking ahead to a clash against Bologna in the Europa League, with the hope of securing a much-needed first win of the season.

It will now be interesting to see if this public show of frustration will be enough for Villa to turn things around for the claret and blue outfit.
