NSWE must ready list to replace Unai Emery as shock Aston Villa exit on cards after Monchi developments
Monchi is leaving his post as President of Football Operations at Aston Villa.
Both of Monchi’s deadline day signings, Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott, started on the bench on Sunday during Villa’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
This result means Villa are winless in their opening five Premier League matches, and their underwhelming summer transfer window is largely to blame, with the Villans spending around £30million.
However, with Monchi already out of the door, Stan Collymore has suggested a world in which Unai Emery could soon follow him.

‘Next 48 hours will tell everything’ about Unai Emery’s future at Villa
Villa have been predicted to win the Europa League this season, but if the B6 outfit wants to fulfil this, starting with their match against Bologna, a drastic improvement is needed.
The longer Villa’s winless run goes on, the more pressure piles on Emery and with Monchi’s recent exit, it looks like everything he has built is beginning to fall around him.
In a post on X on 22 September, Collymore claims that Emery could be next to leave the club, and NSWE may have to be prepared for the worst-case scenario of the Spanish manager leaving.
“I hope Emery strikes up a rapport with someone new and gets his mojo back, doubles down and commits to the long haul,” Collymore said.
“He’s not of our neck of the woods, though, he’ll have suitors in Spain, probably one or two big Italian clubs and should (Manchester) United be serious about change, then they’ll have a sniff too, why wouldn’t they, they can offer almost unlimited resources to back up what Villa did last season with multiple seasons of serious cash support.
“The next 48 hours will tell everything. If he’s bullish and wants to stay, you’ll see it as he’s a straight talker.”
Collymore continued: “If he doesn’t look at the camera, fidgets with his ear and doesn’t answer ‘do you see your long term at Villa?’ then the owners and new recruitment guy need to get a list together quickly in case he exits sooner or end of season.”

Stan Collymore critical of Monchi’s recruitment success rate
Despite his massive reputation as a result of the job he did as Sevilla’s director of football across two spells at the club, Monchi’s spell at Villa Park has fallen short of the expectations of supporters.
The likes of Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen have underperformed, with failed signings like these contributing to Villa’s undesirable battle with PSR.
In the same post on X, Collymore claims that for Villa to continue competing at the upper echelon of the Premier League, their success rate in recruitment must be significantly better than what it currently is.
Morgan Rogers, Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans have been described as the positive signings, with the rest making Monchi’s recruitment simply average.
Who Villa’s next director of football will be remains to be seen. Still, whoever they are, you would assume their priority will be ensuring that the ludicrous contracts the Villans have been handing out at times are reserved for the players who thoroughly deserve them.
The next big question revolves around the future of Emery, though, will he be around to see the change?
