Aston Villa to meet other Premier League clubs in new summit as updates emerge on PSR change
Aston Villa are one of the clubs that have been limited the most by PSR over the years.
Their inability to spend big this summer has prevented them from kicking on again, and the consequences have begun to show on Unai Emery’s side with their disastrous start.
Villa’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland last time out ensures that they have just three points from their opening five games, as the Villans currently sit in the relegation zone.
However, there may be hope for Villa that these struggles on the pitch may not last long, with the 20 Premier League clubs discussing the potential of changing the PSR rules as we know them.

New ‘UEFA-style system’ could be set to replace current PSR rules
Stan Collymore blamed poor recruitment for Villa’s PSR struggles, with certain signings failing to live up to expectations despite being on massive wages.
This could all be set to change, however, according to The Sun on 23 September, which claims that Premier League clubs meet for the first time this season on Tuesday at a London meeting to discuss possible changes to the Profit and Sustainability rules.
Whilst an agreement is “not expected” to be agreed upon today, previous discussions regarding a change to a UEFA-style system based on squad cost ratios have been held.
League chiefs want to push through this change, which would see clubs not in UEFA competition limited to spending 85 per cent of their revenue on potential transfers and wages.
This change would need to be approved by 14 of the 20 clubs in order for it to come into force next season.

New financial rules could take the shackles off Villa
PSR limited Villa this summer to making just three permanent signings, for a total of around £30million, with one of those being a free agent in Victor Lindelof.
This is peanuts in comparison to the other money clubs in and around them, such as Newcastle and Chelsea this summer.
A change to the current financial rules could effectively remove the shackles that are hampering Villa in the transfer market, allowing them to spend consistently.
If the rules are changed, all attention would then turn to NSWE, with the pressure being on to put their hands in their pockets.
