Sunderland vs Aston Villa postponement latest after Met Office update

Aston Villa are set to take on Sunderland in their next Premier League clash on Sunday, but the weather forecast makes for grim reading.

Villa are preparing to travel to face Sunderland as their search for a first win of the season continues away from Villa Park.

This comes just days after Villa fell to penalty shootout defeat against Brentford in the Carabao Cup, as Unai Emery’s winless streak continued.

Having seen Harvey Elliott score Villa’s first goal of the season, there will be hope of a better result against the recently promoted Black Cats at the Stadium of Light.

With that being said, the weather conditions in SR5 do not look good at all, leading to a new update from the Met Office.

Yellow weather warning in Sunderland

Against Brentford, Jadon Sancho starred for Aston Villa, and there will be questions over whether he will start once again for the Villans.

Despite this, there is still a general bad feeling around B6 right now, something which only a positive result and performance could fix in the north east.

If the claret and blue outfit are going to be able to do that, they need the game to go ahead, something which could be under threat.

This comes after the Met Office reported a yellow weather warning for rain in Sunderland for both Saturday, 20 September, and Sunday, 21 September.

There is a reported chance that this heavy rainfall may cause some transport disruption and flooding around the Stadium of Light. Chances of power cuts are also reported.

As it stands, this is described as a “small chance”, and so there is no immediate threat of the game being postponed unless the weather condition deteriorate any further.

Aston Villa hopeful that Sunderland clash will go ahead

As it stands, the potential of heavy rain isn’t guaranteed to cause problems in the north east, so Villa should be able to play out their clash against the Mackems.

This will be far from an easy task against a side who have recruited extremely well and have remained unbeaten at home this campaign.

This is especially the case after a terrible start to the season for Villa, with no Premier League goals and just two points to speak of.

The B6 outfit needs this clash to go ahead and have to put in a positive performance or risk their form going even further downhill.
