Jadon Sancho could easily flop at Aston Villa as rumours emerge around Bodymoor Heath
Jadon Sancho could struggle at Aston Villa after his previous antics.
Sancho signed for Villa from Manchester United on deadline day on a straight loan deal until the end of the season at Villa Park.
The winger has now made his debut for the Villans, with Sancho starting for Villa against Brentford in their penalty shootout defeat in the Carabao Cup.
There were mixed reviews from Villa fans about Sancho at Brentford, especially when he hit the post with the chance to make it 2-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Now, the chances of Sancho succeeding under Unai Emery have been assessed as noise begins to filter out of Bodymoor Heath of his past.
This article contains exclusive comments given to Villa News by former manager Martin Allen.
Jadon Sancho has previous for poor punctuality
Both Sancho and Harvey Elliott could succeed for Villa and help to transform them after a difficult start to the campaign in claret and blue.
With that being said, there will be concerns over the Man United loanee over his past at Old Trafford, which has seen him shipped out on three separate loan deals.
The Englishman was somewhat successful at Chelsea but was disappointing in his temporary spell back at Borussia Dortmund in 2024.
Season | Club | Appearances | Goal involvements |
2023/24 | Borussia Dortmund | 21 | 5 |
2024/25 | Chelsea | 41 | 13 |
This could raise eyebrows in B6, especially with ex-Premier League midfielder Allen pointing out his prior lateness to training at other clubs before his Villa move.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Allen said: “Sancho has been a great player in the past.
“I’m not sure how good he’s been over the last few years, however. He seems to have drifted around, and there have been rumours of him turning up late for training, which isn’t good.
“Villa did have Rashford last season, and that worked well for them, and he’s gone on to Barcelona.
“There’s a lot of change, and I’m not sure which way it will go for Sancho.
“He could have a massive peak and have an extreme high, or he could fade away at Aston Villa.“
Jadon Sancho could transform Aston Villa
All I’ve wanted at Villa for years is a winger who can get on the ball, do a trick and get past a defender with ease.
We last truly saw that with Moussa Diaby, but now the hopes of replicating that will lie on the shoulders of Sancho in the coming weeks of the campaign.
The Englishman has excellent ability on the ball, as he showed against Brentford, and could rediscover his best form under the tutelage of Emery.
If he is to do that, fans have to hope that he will put in his best wearing claret and blue and put 100 per cent effort into becoming the player we all know he can be.
