Jadon Sancho happy as he sends first message after Aston Villa debut

Aston Villa are still without their first win of the season after Brentford knocked them out of the Carabao Cup on penalties on Tuesday.

The pressure continues to ramp up on Unai Emery as Villa succumbed to their third defeat in their opening five matches in all competitions.

One consolation for the travelling supporters is that Harvey Elliott was able to end Villa’s goal drought, even if his effort should have been easily saved.

Jadon Sancho was also handed his first start for Villa, with the winger sending a message to the Villa fans late on 16 September following the game.

Jadon Sancho ‘happy’ to make first Villa appearance

It’s fair to say that Sancho struggled on his debut for Villa, with Emery substituting the Englishman after 74 minutes in favour of Emi Buendia.

Despite the poor performance and result, the 25-year-old remained optimistic and posted a message on his Instagram account.

“Happy to make my debut for Aston Villa, not the result we wanted, but something to build on,” Sancho said.

With the Villans’ lack of business throughout the summer, they will need Sancho to get up to speed and contribute to the team in the Premier League sooner rather than later.

However, considering the current situation Emery’s side finds themselves in, Sancho may feel it was a missed opportunity to nail down a starting position for their trip to the Stadium of Light on Sunday to face Sunderland.

Huge pressure on Jadon Sancho this season

Sancho’s deadline day arrival certainly raised some eyebrows, and it has the potential to be either one of the best or equally one of the worst pieces of business Monchi has conducted during his time at Villa Park.

Given the poor form he has showcased over the last few years, many had already written Sancho off before he had pulled on a Villa shirt.

His performance against Brentford will certainly not help his case, but for Sancho, there is simply no other option but to turn things around at Villa and impress if he wants to salvage his career as a Premier League footballer.
