Harvey Elliott signing opens door for Aston Villa to green light £20m January exit

Harvey Elliott could soon spark an exit-bound transfer at Aston Villa

Elliott signed for Villa from Liverpool on an initial loan deal with an obligation to make his move to Villa Park permanent next summer.

This saw Elliott make his Villa debut against Brentford, scoring the first goal of the season for Unai Emery’s side in a penalty shootout defeat in the Carabao Cup.

There is hope that the signings of Elliott and Jadon Sancho can boost Villa this campaign, but it isn’t all good news in the Midlands.

This comes as Elliott’s signing could ultimately force out a fan favourite in B6 as the January window moves closer to its opening date.

Harvey Elliott to replace Emi Buendia at Aston Villa

There is no getting away from the fact that Villa were willing to sell Emi Buendia this summer, should an appropriate offer have come in.

Despite this, the Argentina international opted to stick around at Bodymoor Heath and has proven to be one of the brighter sparks in the squad this season.

With that being said, Emery is likely to feature Elliott ahead of the ex-Norwich City man moving forward, resulting in a lack of minutes for the 28-year-old.

As a result, former scout King believes that Villa will part ways with Buendia in January, should a bid worth around £20million come in at Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, King said: “I would think so (Villa keen to sell Buendia in January), now that they’ve brought in Harvey Elliott.

“If he performs well, then there’s the possibility that they’re going to sign him, as his future isn’t bright at Liverpool.

“I would say they might be able to get £20m as a maximum for Buendia.”

Emi Buendia has proven his talents this season

It has been a terrible start to the season for the claret and blue outfit, but the performances of the Argentine have been positive.

The attacking midfielder has showcased energy on bad days for the Villans, despite being unable to pick up a goal or an assist.

As a result, letting him go could prove to be a risk, even if a deal in the region of £20m could prove to be a positive fee for what is ultimately a fringe player.

If Villa’s form hasn’t picked up by January, then this move may be put on ice until the summer at least, but that is yet to be seen.
