Jadon Sancho ‘last-chance saloon’ speculated after Aston Villa announcement
Jadon Sancho hasn’t enjoyed life in England since leaving Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho joined Villa on deadline day from Manchester United on loan, looking to finally reignite his career after struggling at Old Trafford and on loan at Chelsea last season.
Villa have started the season struggling, failing to score in their opening four Premier League games to sit in the relegation zone.
There was improvement in the 0-0 draw with Everton, and with the deadline day signings of Victor Lindelof and Harvey Elliott, Villa are expected to get going very quickly.
Villa took on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, with Sancho among the starters.

Jadon Sancho on his last chance as he starts for Villa at Brentford
Unai Emery gave Sancho his first start as a Villa player against Brentford in the Carabao Cup.
The Englishman’s last start was in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest on the final day of last season, a result which helped cost Villa Champions League football.
Sancho was sent back to United after the Blues paid to remove the mandatory buy option from his loan deal.
In the build-up to the Brentford tie, Mark Chapman and Curtis Davies discussed Sancho’s recent struggles live on Sky Sports, and how if he fails at Villa then his career is in serious jeopardy.
Jadon Sancho in England | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Manchester United | 83 | 12 | 6 |
Chelsea | 41 | 5 | 10 |
Chapman said: “Is it last chance saloon for [Sancho], given where he’s been here, there and not really settled?”
Davies replied: “That’s the frustration with him. At Chelsea last year, it was a bit of a hit or miss, he didn’t set the world alight.”
He went on to say: “As long as he goes with the right mindset, Unai doesn’t care what wages he is on, he’ll put him on the bench.
“So that’s the big thing for me. He has to go in there with the right mindset, if he wants to play.”

Jadon Sancho needs to make sure his head is focused only on football
With Sancho’s problems at United, the perception around the winger is no longer one of a youngster with elite potential, but more of a wasted talent that has lost his way.
The move to Villa represents a chance for Sancho to stay out of the media spotlight on most weeks, which helped him thrive during his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund in 2024.
When the former Manchester City youngster is focused only on football, he is one of the most electric and exciting attackers in the Premier League.
However, he needs to prove that he can do it on a consistent basis, but there may not be any better manager to unleash that potential than Unai Emery.
