Everton fans furious with Simon Hooper after what happened vs Aston Villa – ‘Horrific’
Aston Villa were used to refereeing decisions going against them last season.
However, their fortunes seem to have changed in the 2025/26 campaign, with referee Simon Hooper helping them over the line in Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw with Everton.
Hooper has been favourable to Unai Emery’s side in the past, with the Villans now unbeaten in their last four games he has officiated.
Although things didn’t click in attack against Everton, Villa managed to keep another clean sheet and can build on the result against Brentford in the Carabao Cup.

Everton fans brand Simon Hooper’s performance as ‘one of the worst’
Everton were left frustrated countless times by refereeing decisions.
Hooper came under fire for awarding Rogers a free kick on the halfway line after a strong challenge from James Tarkowski.
It was revealed in the summer that Aston Villa were hit the most by refereeing errors last season, with six decisions going against them.
The conclusion was made by the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents panel, with Hooper rated the best referee.
According to Everton fans, the referee continued to be favourable to the Villans in their 0-0 draw.
One Toffees fan wrote: “That Simon Hooper refereeing performance yesterday was one of the worst I’ve seen, and we’ve had some shockers in recent years.”
Another supporter replied: “Referee very poor, the grealish booking not merited. A similar challenge occurred in a short time after, and by an AV player and the ref waived play on, gave some strange decisions.”
Another fellow Blues fan said that the “game’s gone” after Hooper awarded some soft fouls.
It’s about time Aston Villa got some luck from referees
Emery hasn’t been handed much luck in the last few months, with Profit and Sustainability rules halting their progress in the summer transfer window.
With everything that has gone against Villa, it is about time they had some luck from match officials.
Morgan Rogers was denied a goal against Manchester United on the final day of last season, which denied the Villans Champions League football.
Countless refereeing errors also went against them last season, and with things not going their way, decisions going their way, and a 0-0 draw will settle any Villa nerves.
