Gabby Agbonlahor backs plea made to all Aston Villa fans travelling to Everton

Aston Villa are still searching for their first Premier League win of the season

Unai Emery’s side sit 19th in the table, and have yet to score a goal in their opening three games.

Aston Villa travel to Everton on Saturday in their first fixture after the international break, and fans will be hoping for a change of fortunes.

It was a summer of frustration for Villa fans, particularly on the transfer front, with the Midlands club hampered by PSR regulations.

As Aston Villa prepare to face former skipper Jack Grealish, Gabby Agbonlahor has issued advice to fans ahead of the game.

Gabby Agbonlahor tells Villa fans to ‘save your boos’

Emi Martinez was subject to a move to Manchester United, but the transfer collapsed on deadline day.

The Argentine goalkeeper remains with the Villa squad despite tensions with the supporters, who he seemed to wave goodbye to last season before trying to force his way out.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday, Agbonlahor and host Alan Brazil asked fans not to take their frustration out on Martinez.

Brazil said: “I’ll say it again: Villa fans, don’t boo Martinez, please.”

Agbonlahor agreed, adding: “Until you know the full situation, don’t boo him. Save your boos until the club explains it, which I don’t think they will.”

Martinez is out of favour with the Villa supporters following his summer antics, but the former forward feels fans should wait until they make their feelings clear.

Martinez needs to win back Villa fans

While he didn’t get his desired move, Martinez now needs to get his head down and work hard if he wants the adulation from fans again.

Martinez has been viewed as one of the best goalkeepers in the world over the last few years and has been one of Villa’s best players.

The summer was far from ideal, but the World Cup winner now must show the leadership skills he has shown in the past to avoid becoming a problem.

It will be a long way back for Martinez, but he is still a Villa player and deserves to remind Villa fans how good he can be.
