Tim Sherwood couldn’t be more wrong after what he’s said about Aston Villa gem Morgan Rogers
Morgan Rogers has developed into one of the most impressive players in the Premier League in the last year or so under Unai Emery.
Despite interest from Tottenham in the summer, Rogers stayed in B6.
The playmaker was outstanding in 2024/25, and if Villa want to achieve Europa League glory, they will need Rogers to be at his very best.
Despite Rogers latest performance for England earning praise from Gary Lineker, Tim Sherwood’s recent claim about the 23-year-old and England will not be received well by the Villa Park faithful.

Tim Sherwood leaves Morgan Rogers out of England’s best XI
Former Villa manager Sherwood had an underwhelming spell in charge of the Villans a decade ago, winning just six of his 23 Premier League matches in charge.
However, Sherwood has given the Villa supporters another reason to dislike him when he picked his England starting XI if everyone is fit and available on Sky Sports News on 11 September.
Notably, Sherwood left Rogers out of the midfield, with Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, and Cole Palmer selected ahead of him.
On the left wing, Sherwood picked former Villa captain Jack Grealish, with Ezri Konsa being the only representative from the club in the team.
With the World Cup on the horizon, Rogers will be hoping that his performances against Serbia are enough to convince England manager Thomas Tuchel to select him.
How do Morgan Rogers and Jack Grealish compare?
Whilst Rogers’ most natural position is as a number 10, he could equally be effective on the left wing ahead of Grealish in Sherwood’s hypothetical lineup.
Grealish has been outstanding for Everton so far, but it’s still early days.
- Grealish has four assists in his opening three Premier League matches for Everton
- This comes despite Grealish only having an expected assists of 1.29
- Rogers will be hoping Grealish’s form cools down, so there is less competition in the attacking areas for England

The data suggests that Grealish’s explosive start to the season makes him a more creative player and better dribbler than Rogers was during his excellent campaign last season.
It is important to note that Grealish’s data will likely balance out as the season goes on, with his purple patch in form being unsustainable throughout an entire term.
Nevertheless, Grealish’s start to the season has been a stark contrast to Rogers at Villa, with the 23-year-old yet to register a goal contribution as he risks playing catch-up to Grealish if he does not rediscover his best form in a claret and blue shirt.
