Aston Villa news round-up: Unai Emery to hold crunch talks as Monchi monitors Julian Brandt

Aston Villa have continued to be busy even after the transfer window drew to a close.

Villa finished deadline day by signing Harvey Elliott, Jadon Sancho and Victor Lindelof after what had been a difficult window until that point.

This has certainly given more of a positive outlook to Unai Emery’s squad after a winless opening start to the campaign at Villa Park.

With that being said, the drama isn’t yet over in B6 with transfer rumours continuing to spiral around the Midlands, well over a week after the window slammed shut.

This has seen Monchi showcase an interest in Julian Brandt as Villa News rounds up all the news emerging from the Midlands on 10 September.

Julian Brandt linked to Aston Villa from Borussia Dortmund

Even with the transfer window over and done with, Villa have been linked with a move for Brandt as his contract ticks down in the Bundesliga.

It was also reported that Monchi is monitoring the situation of the German international, with Villa said to be one of the strongest candidates to sign Brandt.

This could prove to be the perfect move to help Emery get the best out of Jadon Sancho at Villa Park throughout his loan spell from Manchester United.

When the duo played together, the attacking midfielder told Sport1 in June 2020: “I’m actually quite confident… I would be happy if I could play another year with Jadon.”

If this existing relationship can be built on, Villa could prove to be the beneficiaries across the second half of the season in B6.

Youri Tielemans linked to Atletico Madrid

Tielemans is now the captain of Belgium and is continuing to be one of the most important players in claret and blue every week.

With that being said, it is little surprise that interest has built in his signature away from Villa Park, despite no move going through as of yet.

It was revealed on September 10 that Atletico Madrid want Tielemans from Villa and are willing to pay around £30.3million upfront with £8.6m in potential add-ons.

A transfer decision between the two clubs will ultimately come down to the 28-year-old, who will have to choose between Birmingham and Madrid in the coming months.

Unai Emery and Emi Martinez to hold crunch talks

There is no getting away from the negative atmosphere surrounding the Argentina international right now after he tried to force through a move to Manchester United.

After missing Villa’s defeat against Crystal Palace, Martinez then failed in his efforts to join the Red Devils in a deadline day switch.

Now, the 33-year-old is set to return to action for the Villans, but former scout Bryan King believes Martinez and Emery will have to hold talks before the keeper features.

He said: “He needs to sit down with Emery and have a good talk with him and sort out his problems for this season at least.

Emery’s job now is to say ‘we’ve got to progress, and you’re our number one.’

If he doesn’t play football, I’d certainly put a question mark over him if I were the Argentina manager.

If his attitude is wrong for Villa, it will probably be wrong for him to be named in the World Cup squad for Argentina.

I would imagine that Martinez will come back as number one. He’s the best goalkeeper there, regardless of what’s happened.
