Unai Emery has massive Matty Cash problem at Aston Villa despite Poland heroics

Matty Cash has been hit with mixed reviews at Aston Villa over the years.

Cash was linked away from Villa to Nottingham Forest at a late stage of the summer window, with many members of the Villa Park faithful willing to let him go.

After a deal remained off the table in B6, Cash could instead sign a new deal with Villa, having been a regular under Unai Emery and previous coaches since 2020.

That has also seen Cash become a regular for Poland, where he has been able to showcase his talents away from the scrutiny of the Midlands.

With that being said, it now looks as if the claret and blue outfit have a problem on their hands after what Cash did on the international stage.

Matty Cash scores again for Poland

Bryan King thought Villa would want to sell Cash in the window, but his exploits for his national side have shown a different side to his game.

The full-back last scored for Villa in April, having gone almost a year without netting in claret and blue.

As a result, it was a surprise to see the 28-year-old score for his country, and it was even more of a surprise to see him score a second in as many games.

This saw the Villa man net the opening goal for Poland as his side ultimately went on to secure a 3-1 win against Finland on 7 September.

The ball came to Cash as he approached the box, he took a touch and powered a low drive through a crowd to find the bottom corner.

He showed an ability which has rarely been seen from him at Villa Park, something which Emery could benefit from utilising moving forward.

This capped off a showing which had many positive signs, with his 88 per cent pass accuracy, four defensive actions, and one chance created being particular high points.

With that being said, the defender was taken off at half time after being spotted limping, just what the Villans didn’t want to see.

Matty Cash picks up injury away from Aston Villa

It has been a difficult start to the campaign for Villa, losing two and drawing one without scoring is far from ideal.

There will be hope that this can be rectified after the international break, and with Cash doing so well, there will be hope that he can impress when he returns to B6.

This no longer looks like being possible after the defender came off early for Poland, being withdrawn at the break after being helped down the tunnel.

It is unclear how long the Villa man could be out for, but it certainly looks likely to cause issues for Emery, looking ahead to a trip to face Everton next time around.
