Aston Villa proven right to agree summer exit as footage emerges of international gaffe
Aston Villa had come under scrutiny for some of their transfer business throughout the summer.
It is no secret that the Villa Park club struggled with finances and were forced to stick to the rules after Villa were slapped with a fine by UEFA alongside Chelsea.
This saw Unai Emery bring in a lack of fresh faces right up until deadline day at Villa, where Harvey Elliott joined on loan from Liverpool, Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United, and Victor Lindelof on a free transfer.
These deals were received well by supporters in B6, although the sale of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United didn’t go down so well on the terraces.
It is another Midlands exit this summer that looks to have been the correct decision after what’s gone on during the international break.

Robin Olsen drops clanger for Sweden
In arguably one of the biggest upgrades Villa could make, Marco Bizot came in from Brest to replace Olsen as the number two keeper in the Midlands.
This saw the 35-year-old depart the Villans earlier in the summer in order to return to Malmo, with whom he kick-started his senior career back in 2012.
It is fair to say that the claret and blue faithful weren’t gutted to see the Swede go after a largely poor spell as a second-string option behind Emi Martinez.
After three years at Bodymoor Heath, Olsen had a positive impact on the squad and was clearly well-liked in the dressing room, but his poor performances became an issue.
It is clear to see that nothing has changed in that department since returning to his homeland, with the keeper making a huge error for Sweden in a clash against Slovenia on Friday.
Stat vs Slovenia | Robin Olsen |
Saves | 2 |
Errors led to goal | 1 |
Goals conceded | 2 |
Accurate passes | 8 |
Long pass accuracy (%) | 8 |
This saw the keeper spill Sandi Lovric’s strike, which went straight down his throat before slipping under him and into the back of the net.
As difficult as this may be to watch for many, it is just definitive proof that the Villans made the right decision to let him go this summer.

Marco Bizot represents huge step up for Aston Villa
At this stage of the campaign, Bizot probably didn’t expect to have started two Premier League games, but that is exactly what he’s done.
In his debut clash against Newcastle United, the Dutchman was excellent and looked to be a really astute signing for the claret and blue outfit.
Despite conceding a penalty against Crystal Palace, his general performance was positive aside from conceding three on the night.
With that being said, the ex-Brest man has already proven that he is a step above Olsen, who can’t keep getting away with these errors that cost him so dearly at Villa Park.
