UEFA intervene in late Aston Villa move for Newcastle United gem Will Osula
Aston Villa made a shock deadline day approach for Will Osula at Newcastle United.
Newcastle ace Osula became of interest to Villa as a number of late moves were assessed by Unai Emery and Co. before the end of the summer window.
This has seen Villa push ahead on other deals with Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho seemingly on their way to Villa Park after the 7pm deadline passed.
Victor Lindelof has also come in on a free at Villa, putting the sort of financial worries on show for all to see after a frustrating window.
With that being said, this annoyance isn’t likely to go anywhere after UEFA halted the Villans from bringing in Osula despite a late effort to bring him in.

UEFA block Will Osula move at Aston Villa
A move for Osula was wanted by Villa, but was scuppered by financial rules, which has been the story of the summer for the claret and blue outfit.
This hasn’t helped after a sour atmosphere around B6, especially after falling to a 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at home.
That said, deadline day business has injected some fresh hope into the Villans, but that was until news of a further handbrake from UEFA.
This comes after the European organisers stopped Osula from moving to Villa Park because of Jacob Ramsey’s move to Newcastle earlier in the window.
David Ornstein explained this with The Athletic on 1 September, highlighting the strange way that UEFA would view a deal for the Dane.
He said: “An interesting situation developed.
“They were perusing Osula from Newcastle as a potential loan, I don’t know if it would have an option or obligation, but they weren’t able to proceed on it Villa because it would have been characterised, under UEFA accounting methods as being like a swap and by that I mean that a player has already gone from Aston Villa to Newcastle and that was Jacob Ramsey for pure profit.
“UEFA would have seen it as a trade-off, then they would have amended downwards the profit that Villa had gained from that transfer, and that basically stopped Villa from doing that Osula deal because they can not afford to lose that profit.”
Aston Villa have themselves to blame for financial trouble
The word “corrupt” is one that gets spread around Villa Park like it’s nothing at the moment after a dreadful window.
This comes down to FFP and SCR, which many believe are there to stop outsiders from disrupting the so-called “big six”.
It is fair to suggest that this has something to do with it, as these rules in themselves are anti-competitive as so many senior figures have called out.
Despite this, it has to be said that taking a huge risk by signing Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi in the hope of qualifying for the Champions League.
This trio were all on massive salaries and pushed the revenue-to-wage ratio to the extreme, and has ultimately cost Villa this summer.
There are a number of factors that have contributed to this window and the backwards steps that Villa have taken, it isn’t completely down to the Premier League and UEFA.
